The Prince George’s County Office of Central Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Maintenance Services Attendant I/II (Maintenance Services Attendant 1A) position grade A10/11, in the Facilities Operation and Management Division.

About The Position

This is an entry level, skilled and manual work in the maintenance and repair of County owned and leased buildings and structures. Incumbent is responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the trade occupations, e.g. (plumbing, general carpentry, electrical, painting, etc.) Assignments are received in the form of oral or written work orders and is performed under close supervision.

Upon the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, the position incumbent may, at the discretion of management, be promoted to the II full performance level.

About The Agency

The Office of Central Services is a multifaceted agency of the Prince George’s County Government providing government-wide, mission critical support services in the areas of facilities operations and management, building design & construction, real estate services, fleet management, and general services. We make government operations operate better for the government.

Examples of Work

  • Completes a wide variety of maintenance requests from building occupants and other County agencies.
  • Performs preventive maintenance according to a schedule established by the building supervisor, the building engineer or maintenance supervisor.
  • Performs general maintenance work on heating and air conditioning equipment to keep it in good working order; installs and replaces compressors, condensers, capacitors, electrical switches and wiring.
  • Performs general maintenance on plumbing equipment; repairs or replaces flush tanks, plumbing fixtures and utility traps; clears sanitary disposal lines; measures, cut threads, and installs pipe and pipe fittings.
  • Cleans, adjusts and repairs burners and pumps, electrical fixtures and equipment; replaces circuit breakers and ballasts in fluorescent fixtures; runs new circuits; replaces receptacles, motors, pumps and parts on boilers.
  • Reports all major equipment failures and problems to the building engineer or building supervisor within established time requirements.
  • Partners with building engineers and users in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Observes all administrative rules and regulations, safety rules and measures, and always complies with security regulations.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class for work.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school or vocational high school with work experience in the recognized trades

An equivalent combination of experience, training or education which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities may be accepted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, equipment, and experience using and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform various building maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions are regulations applicable to maintenance work.

General Plan Information

The Prince George’s County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.

The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).

New employees must enroll in the County’s health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.

After enrolling in the County’s benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
