Summary Of Position
The Maintenance Scheduler / Technical Writer is responsible for day-to-day coordination of maintenance activities ensuring the right resources—people, machines, and materials—are ready when needed. This role also ensures work gets done the right way by creating and maintaining clear, accurate technical documentation like work instructions, maintenance manuals, and standard procedures to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations.
Job Duties & Essential Functions

Scheduling Duties
- Develop and maintain maintenance schedules based on customer orders, lead times, and inventory.
- Coordinate with departments (Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Maintenance) to avoid conflicts or delays.
- Adjust schedules based on resource availability, breakdowns, or urgent jobs.
- Ensure work orders are released to the maintenance team in a timely and organized fashion.
- Track and manage preventive maintenance (PM) and break-fix schedules; prioritize maintenance tasks based on urgency and impact.
- Responsible for preparing and kitting all required maintenance materials, tools, and parts in advance of scheduled work to minimize downtime.
- Monitor performance metrics (e.g., on-time completion, downtime reduction, maintenance backlog) using tools like RedZone or ERP systems.
- Communicate schedule changes, risks, and priorities to key stakeholders in a proactive and timely manner.
Technical Writing Duties
- Create and maintain user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documents suitable for various audiences.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance to gather accurate information.
- Ensure all documents comply with regulatory, safety, and internal standards.
- Work with the documentation control team to maintain document control, including revision history, approval workflows, and version tracking.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing or related field preferred with 1- 3 years of experience in scheduling, technical writing, or a combination of both, preferably in a manufacturing or technical environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, ERP systems).
- Familiarity with RedZone or similar manufacturing analytics tools.
- Experience creating and formatting technical documentation with clarity and precision.
- Familiarity with manufacturing workflows and terminology.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and lift/carry up to 30 to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to use fingers, hands, and arms for regular tasks.
- Must be able to climb steps, have a good hand-eye coordination, and bend/squat.
- Must be able to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment.
- Must be able to operate effectively in temperatures ranging from 60 to 110 F.
- Must be capable of visually detecting defects, depth, colors, variances, and see objects.
