The Maintenance Repairer 2 performs skilled maintenance and repair work to support the operation and upkeep of SLFPA-E's flood protection system and facilities. This position is responsible for inspecting and maintaining floodgates and flood control valves, performing plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry work, completing general facility repairs, and assisting with levee maintenance and special projects.
Successful candidates should have strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on maintenance and repair skills, knowledge of basic plumbing and construction practices, attention to safety and detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The position also assists with coordinating work assignments and providing guidance and training to other maintenance staff.
One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) operates the regional flood control system and associated facilities in St. Bernard Parish, the east bank of Orleans Parish, and the east bank of Jefferson Parish within its control to protect lives and property from tidal flooding by natural weather events. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Maintenance Foreman, Maintenance Superintendent, Facilities Maintenance Manager, or the Director of Maintenance.
Ensure operational ability of each floodgate. This inspection is performed regularly and will include the following:
Provide plumbing services, including minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and quarterly inspection of flood control valves; assist with completing valve maintenance inspection reports. Exercise knowledge of plumbing code requirements and actuator operation to open and close valves and use proper writing skills to document valve inspections.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position (40-hour work week); It offers a flexible work schedule of four (4) ten-hour days - Monday through Thursday

NOTE: The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of SLFPA-E's mission is to protect the residents of the east bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard Parish, and the east bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge, wind-driven water, and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/Tropical Storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required and remain on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
