Qualifications

  • Must lift 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, climb ladders, work in inclement weather.
  • Shovel snow and travel may be required.

Why does the job exist?

The core mission of the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO) is to responsibly generate revenue through a wide array of leasing activities on state trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities and hospitals. This position will be responsible for the direct supervision of the maintenance crew providing oversight in day-to-day tasks, maintaining the New Mexico State Land Office building by conducting inspections of the building and grounds to determine where repairs and/or replacements are needed and monitors progress and quality of work performed. This position will devote a substantial portion of time assigning and directly supervising the maintenance staff and will provide reports to the Director and Deputy Director on maintenance costs and progress.

How does it get done?

Key responsibilities of this position include supervising maintenance workers in the completion of maintenance tasks and work orders submitted by every Division of the NM State Land Office. Ensuring that the staff and visitors of the office have a safe and comfortable working environment and are provided with timely support services. This position will inspect all heating, ventilating, air conditioning and mechanical systems to ensure systems are operating safely and efficiently using specialized equipment and electronic testing devices as needed and may replace or fix worn or broken parts, where necessary, or make adjustments to correct malfunctioning equipment and machines. This position will oversee the design and construction of in-house projects to provide appropriate space utilization and upgrades throughout the building which consists of three floors. This position will supervise and performs complex maintenance tasks related to carpentry, electrical repair, painting, fencing, landscaping and grounds keeping. This position will also assign and supervise the work of maintenance workers, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions as well as conduct trainings. This position may interview and recommend selection of applicants.

Internal: Oil, Gas, and Minerals Division; Administrative Services; Commercial Division; Legal Division; Surface Resources Division; and executive State Land Office management officials (Office of the Commissioner). External: New Mexico public schools, universities and hospitals; individuals; general public; lessees (agricultural, oil and gas companies, commercial, rights-of-ways); natural resource authorization users; program enrollees; hunters; other government entities (state, federal, city, county, tribal).

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Substantial experience performing advanced maintenance duties; and
  • Substantial experience supervising maintenance or construction activities.

High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction, or appliance repair. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Must obtain and maintain a State of New Mexico Driving Certificate.

Working Conditions

Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, work in inclement weather (cold and hot). Must be able to shovel snow and carry tools and equipment around large building. Some travel may be required.
