Position Summary
Responsible for efficient planning and detailed reporting of all maintenance-related activities. Expert in CMMS, developing and managing plant work processes within the system. Proficient in corporate purchasing requirements, inventory management, and maintenance best practices. Provides facilitation between various departments, contractors, and vendors to efficiently manage all maintenance activities. Supervise staff as required.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for efficient planning and detailed reporting of all plant activities related to maintaining and extending the life of the physical facilities and infrastructure of the respective department.
- Supervise use of the CMMS and manage master data quality. Oversee the addition of new equipment and associated equipment BOM’s and maintenance plans for accuracy and compliance to master data standards.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Reliability Manager to institutionalize the CWS maintenance management strategy.
- Gatekeeper of work requests for quality and priority. Collaborate with Operations Engineer, Plant Engineering, and Maintenance Reliability Manager to coordinate maintenance work within operational constraints.
- Lead bi-weekly planning and backlog meeting and facilitate inter-departmental coordination to continue progression of work order planning.
- Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for planning and reporting on all maintenance activity for the respective department.
- Solicit bids from vendors for commonly used spare and repair parts to achieve the most favorable price possible. Establish annual Purchase Orders where appropriate.
- Manage the inventory of spare and ordered repair/installation material for the respective department, coordinating with the purchasing department as required.
- In collaboration with Maintenance and I&E Supervisor, research and write maintenance procedures for new equipment. Review and edit existing procedures; this work requires expertise in CWS' environmental management system.
- Prepare RFPs as directed for plant projects, coordinate with plant staff and provide contractor oversight.
- Read and understand predictive maintenance reports and generate the proper work packages to correct deficiencies.
- May be required to work during emergency conditions.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Job performance must conform to all CWS policies and procedures.
- Specific knowledge of CWS Environmental Management System Policy and Procedures.
Additional Duties
- Maintain technical manual library and research technical issues.
- Control issuance and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Prepares and checks purchase requisitions utilizing automated financial management system.
- Provides training sessions as appropriate.
- Attend meetings in support of system operations.
- May be required to attend intra/interdepartmental cross training.
- Ability to use various software to maintain the CMMS.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements, Activities, and Working Conditions
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing, verbally and with a 2-way radio, to include comprehension of complex oral and written instruction.
- Ability to express and receive detailed information through oral communication.
- Ability to observe and comprehend computer screens and software to generate reports, specifications, memos, and letters.
- Subject to noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Hearing Protection Required.
- Occasionally positions self to move, traverse and lift up to 50 lbs to perform required work. Objects greater than 50 lbs require a two-person operation.
- Ability to reach, pull, handle documents, tools and equipment as required to perform routine tasks. Must be able to turn valve operator wheels and chain mechanisms.
- Occasionally positions self to use up to 50 lbs of force and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
- Occasionally ascend/descend ladders, stairs and ramps as high as thirteen (13) stories at Plum Island and three (3) stories at Hanahan. Occasionally positions self to move, traverse for long distances as necessary to perform required work. Ability to traverse on uneven ground while safely maneuvering equipment on wheels.
- Ability to work independently of others.
- Constantly works in internal / external environmental conditions. Subject to atmospheric conditions of one or more of the following that affect the respiratory system or skin: Fumes (paint), odors, dusts, gases, etc. Personnel Protective Equipment Required.
- Worker may be required to wear a respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Required to work with chemicals used in water and wastewater treatment processes.
- Ability to operate and maintain motor vehicles.
- Must be able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to perform the required essential functions.
Education And/or Experience
- Associates degree in Science, Engineering, or technical field required and a minimum of 2 years planning experience in an industrial setting, or a combination of education and experience to total 5 years in a technical field and/or an industrial setting.
- Proficient at managing a work order system; preferably a recognized CMMS.
- Supervisory experience desirable.
- Ability to develop, write, and comprehend detailed technical reports.
- Organizational skills to determine optimum use of labor and material resources.
- Extensive knowledge of principles, methods, standards, tools, and test equipment used in carrying out maintenance efforts, with the ability to evaluate costs and procedures, and make recommendations on effective solutions.
- Specialized computer and software skills; proficient computer skills with windows-based word processing and spreadsheet software (prefer Word and Excel), MS Project and Visio.
- Familiarity with safe handling practices for hazardous materials.
- Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness.
Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
- Valid South Carolina Driver’s License required.
- Ability to pass the “D” level Water LLR exam desirable.
Training Needs
- OSHA and Departmental safety training as required.
- Skills Based Training.
- Standard Operating Instruction (SOI) per department requirements.
- ISO 14001 standards for department and company.
