With opportunities across locations and functions, a culture grounded in our Core Four values - gratitude, communication, respect and accountability - and a strong commitment to learning, collaboration, and innovation, Smithfield offers challenging and rewarding careers where you can grow, contribute and make a real impact.

THE VALUE YOU'LL BRING:

This dynamic dual-role position is at the heart of ensuring seamless operations by overseeing and driving the entire maintenance work control process. You’ll be the mastermind behind prioritizing maintenance work, developing detailed job plans, and determining the right parts, materials, crafts, and skills needed to get the job done. By assigning work control plans to supervisors, you will ensure the efficient execution of maintenance tasks by our skilled hourly staff. You’ll also provide essential equipment expertise and technical guidance to continuously enhance maintenance activities, while occasionally stepping into a leadership role to manage both Smithfield employees and contractors. As the owner and manager of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) at the plant level, you will be the go‑to expert ensuring that all systems run smoothly and efficiently. In this role, you’ll support safety programs as required. If you’re ready to lead, innovate, and make an impact, this is your opportunity!

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

You’ll also develop and maintain maintenance procedures, prioritize work orders, and ensure materials/tools are available. Review and update completed work orders and machinery history in the CMMS system. Generate reports on work progress, schedules, and personnel vacation. Produce weekly maintenance schedules and forecast workforce needs. Manage MRO inventory, including stocking, parts disbursements, returns, and audits.

Training & Personnel Management:

You’ll also train maintenance personnel on reporting procedures and using CMMS software. Assist in contractor qualifications and performance management. Train department personnel in PSM program elements.

Process Safety Management (PSM) & Compliance:

Organize and maintain information for the 14 PSM elements. Develop and manage a process safety information library in line with OSHA 1910.119. Assist with Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), audits, and compliance tracking. Manage the Management of Change (MOC) Program, track submittals, and develop operating procedures. Perform hazard assessments, assist with Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and audit the PSM program. Keep PSM and EPA documentation up to date for compliance.

Reporting & Documentation:

You will assist with annual program goals, provide reports, and ensure documentation is available for audits. Maintain compliance documentation for PSM and other regulatory requirements.

Leadership:

Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Maintenance Department.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Working knowledge of basic computer skills, Internet and Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Strong problem‑solving skills. Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment. Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
