General information about the job

Alcoa is seeking a Maintenance Planner to support safe, efficient, and reliable execution of maintenance activities through disciplined planning, scheduling, material coordination, and work pack development. This position plays a key role in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance work by ensuring job scopes are clearly defined, resources are aligned, materials are available, and execution teams are prepared before work begins.

The Maintenance Planner will be responsible for developing and maintaining maintenance schedules, supporting weekly planning meetings, ensuring accurate materials are staged and kitted, and helping maintain a forward-looking planned work schedule. The role supports efficient execution by coordinating maintenance labor, contractor support, spare parts, tools, equipment, and specialty resources in advance of scheduled work.

This position will also apply the REX standard work management process, maximize the use of REX tools, and support continuous improvement of maintenance work packs, Standard Work Instructions, equipment master data, and planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance plans that clearly define job scope, labor requirements, materials, tools, equipment, permits, timing, and execution sequencing.
  • Coordinate and manage maintenance schedules for internal craft personnel, multi-craft maintenance teams, and contracted maintenance labor while balancing maintenance priorities with production goals and shipping requirements.
  • Maintain a forward-looking schedule of planned work and ensure required materials are identified, procured, staged, and kitted in advance of scheduled execution.
  • Prepare descriptive work instructions, develop new work packs, update existing work packs, and support continuous improvement of maintenance processes through review of execution feedback and lessons learned.
  • Support maintenance craft personnel through clear weekly plans, accurate job scopes, complete work packages, and alignment with REX standards and Target State expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with REX Material Management standards, including the kitting process, spare parts readiness, unused parts return, and coordination with warehouse, expediting, and material support functions.
  • Confirm all required labor, tools, parts, equipment, specialty devices, contractor support, and technical resources are organized and available prior to job execution.
  • Lead or support weekly planning meetings to review upcoming work, resolve constraints, confirm material readiness, and align maintenance execution priorities.
  • Communicate maintenance activity details, preparation requirements, schedule changes, execution sequence, timing, and responsibilities to maintenance, production, operations, and support personnel.
  • Maintain accurate information in eAM systems, including work packs, bills of material, equipment information, work order history, costing, and job closure documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance and operating costs by improving spare parts accuracy, stock criticality, slow-moving stock reviews, work pack quality, corrective actions, and equipment data accuracy.
  • Track repairable components through the RIMS repairable process to help maintain required stock levels for critical items and ensure repairable parts are transported, repaired, returned, and available to support maintenance needs.
  • Collaborate daily with Supervisors, Maintenance Crafts, Operations, Warehouse, and other support teams to improve planning quality, work execution, and closure processes.
  • Support site goals related to preventive maintenance efficiency, accurate allocation of materials and labor, and improved maintenance execution performance.
