Position Overview

The Maintenance operator is responsible for maintaining and operating the terminal in a safe and efficient manner and will provide accurate and timely documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Join the union within 60 days of hire.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with The Shelly Company’s safety procedures.
  • Oversee the loading and unloading of tanker trucks.
  • Operate plant scales by weighing tanker trucks.
  • Perform routine daily facility inspections to include tanks, pumps, valves and all associated piping and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks.
  • Operate hand tools and power equipment.
  • Perform duties under limited supervision.
  • Show willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Other Requirements
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Strictly adhere to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Maintain timely and regular attendance; employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
  • Wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as required by OSHA and/or MSHA. Required PPE may include insulated gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, padlocks for lock‑out/tag‑out, face shield, safety glasses.
  • Work varied hours over all shifts; overtime and weekend work required.
Qualifications

High‑school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Physical Requirements

The job requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms, and talking or hearing. The employee frequently must climb or balance and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include distance, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

The job involves working near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions; regularly exposed to wet, humid airborne particles and extreme heat or cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration and must use protective equipment for potentially loud noise.
