Firmdale Hotels invites you to join the Warren Street Hotel as a Maintenance Painter, delivering high‑quality interior and exterior painting in a luxury setting. You will prepare surfaces, apply coatings, and maintain finishes across guest rooms and public areas, reporting to the Chief Engineer.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years in commercial or luxury hotel painting, is able to handle heavy physical work, and communicates effectively in English.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2–5 years of experience in commercial/luxury hotel painting.
• Knowledge of tools, machinery and safety in painting trades.
• Ability to lift 50–100 lbs and work standing for long periods.
• Must read/write/speak English and communicate well.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, prime, sand, seal and paint surfaces with brushes/rollers.
• Texturing, wallpapering and finish work as needed.
• Carry out minor carpentry and repairs to surfaces.
• Operate and maintain painting equipment safely.
• Assist in maintenance and records as directed by supervisor.
• Respond to building safety concerns and help other engineering tasks as required.

Reports To: Chief Engineer

Job Description:

The Maintenance Painter performs high standard level of work in painting, finishing, and maintaining a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures; may direct the work of other classified staff in the area and perform related work as required. The painter prepares surfaces for painting and finishing; applies undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods and materials; mixes and matches paints and finishes. Advises in selection and storage of painting materials.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches, caulks and paints (roller and brush finish) building surfaces and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials
• Tapes, flushes, repairs and applies texturing, and wallpaper. Utilizes enhanced finishing skills when appropriate
• Performs minor carpentry, sheetrock, wallpaper and tile repairs
• Applies materials to, existing, and alterations (refurbishments)
• Graffiti response and removal if needed
• Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment, including brush, roll, sprayers and pumps, etc. Safely stores and labels all materials
• Checks work orders, managers' report and resolves any issues reported
• Maintains appropriate services and repairs records
• Supports hotel engineering maintenance programs and executes daily, weekly, and monthly checklist
• Operates and uses required tools and equipment skilfully and safely
• Performs heavy physical labor
• Responsible for any hotel issued keys
• Escort and monitor any outside vendors that work on the property in all phases of work
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area to include: inventories, trash removal and clean up
• Assist other engineering personnel as instructed by supervisor in regards to routine and preventative maintenance. Willing to learn and support hotel needs in all engineering capacities such as guest room and public space service calls
• Responds and participates to all building related fire and life safety concerns and must be familiar with all building locations and exits

Requirements:

• High school Diploma, General Education Degree, college degree or trade school preferable
• Experience in commercial, luxury hotel or residential properties from 2 to 5 years. Practices and processes of the painting trade; paints varnishes, wallpaper and related materials
• Knowledge in the maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment; occupational hazards of the painting trade and precautionary measures to be observed
• Be able to work in standing position for long periods of time up to 5 hours and carry 50 to 100lbs
• Ability to work a variety of varying schedule and support when other department members are off
• Ability to communicate well with staff and guest. Must speak, read, and write English
• Ability to perform duties with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy, follow up, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with minimum supervision.
