Job Duties:

The mission of the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) is to provide services and resources that empower Virginians who are blind, vision impaired, or deafblind to confidently achieve their goals in work, education, and daily life.

We deliver comprehensive, individualized services that promote personal independence and employment for people with disabilities, and we strive to be the preferred provider of vocational rehabilitation services for Virginians with disabilities. We are seeking to fill a Maintenance & Ops Coordinator position. The Senior Skilled Trades Technician will support complex maintenance and operational needs within an industrial, commercial, facility, or municipal environment.

This role requires advanced skill and expertise across multiple trades, including electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and general facility maintenance. The ideal candidate will possess strong diagnostic capabilities, technical proficiency, and a commitment to maintaining safe and reliable operations.

Special Projects, Events, and Capital Projects Support
  • The employee provides assistance during capital projects, special events, and other assigned initiatives as directed by supervisory staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting capital projects, events, and special initiatives without causing delays or disruptions
  • Completing assigned tasks accurately and within expected timelines
  • Recording all time dedicated to capital projects in the work order system
  • Performing additional project‑related duties as needed or as directed by the supervisor
Minimum Qualifications:

Considerable experience in:

  • Maintenance or a related field.
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Senior-level knowledge and hands‑on experience in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance trades.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general facility maintenance systems.
  • Working knowledge of industrial, commercial, and municipal equipment operations and repair practices.
  • Working knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and relevant industry standards.
Demonstrated skills in:
  • Diagnostic and problem‑solving techniques for complex building systems and equipment.
  • Advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting of complex equipment and facility systems.
  • Operating specialized tools, testing equipment, and measurement devices.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and emergency response.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, dependability, and a strong work ethic.
Demonstrated ability to:
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.
  • Perform duties in varied conditions, including outdoor environments and inclement weather.
  • Interpret technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, and wiring plans.
  • Clearly document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation and respond to after‑hours needs.
