The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) is seeking a Housekeeping Worker to maintain sanitation in educational and residential facilities in Staunton, VA. This 12-month classified position offers state benefits including health, retirement, and life insurance.

About this position

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Housekeeping Worker.

This is a classified 12 month position with state benefits, including health insurance, retirement, life insurance and disability coverage.

A housekeeping worker at VSDB will provide educational and residential facilities with acceptable housekeeping in order to maintain sanitation standards.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Working knowledge and experience in performing residential space cleaning
  • Ability to give and receive instruction in verbal and in written form
  • Proficiency level of “Novice” in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Scale or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or must obtain following school policy
  • Ability to understand safety, sanitation and cleanliness needs.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s license with driving record that reflects sense of responsibility.
  • Willingness to work alternate schedules
Additional Considerations
  • Working knowledge of the operation of manual and power cleaning equipment preferred
  • Working knowledge of classroom and office space cleaning tasks preferred
  • Working knowledge of commercial (non-industrial) cleaning tasks preferred
