About the role: The Maintenance Operator performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of hydroelectric powerhouse/dam equipment following plant procedures, operating instructions, safety regulations, and industry practices. They assist and instruct other employees and contractors, perform work of a lower classification, and handle other assigned tasks. Extensive experience with the repair and maintenance of basic industrial equipment, especially mechanical and hydraulic systems, as well as basic metal fabrication and welding skills, is expected.

What You'll Do:
- Operate the powerhouse and dam according to system or plant operating orders, making operational adjustments as needed.
- Manage equipment status, including commissioning, decommissioning, and maintenance release.
- Conduct inspections of the powerhouse and dam, monitoring gauges and records for performance.
- Train and assist employees in operational duties, emphasizing safety and efficiency.
- Diagnose and address unusual operating conditions or equipment failures, implementing corrective actions.
- Perform mechanical repairs and assist with electrical repairs.
- Maintain detailed records of operations and changes, proficient in email communication.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and contribute to developing new procedures.
Skills & Experience Needed:
- Proficient with hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, bandsaws, etc.
- Experience with industrial maintenance activities.
- Basic welding, cutting, and fabrication skills.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and piping systems.
- Ability to use measurement tools and perform layout procedures.
- Experience with lifting, rigging, and calculating weight and center of gravity.
- Basic math skills for calculating areas, volumes, weights, etc.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and to be on call.
Physical Requirements:
- Manual tasks including operating tools and lifting at least 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in confined, hot, noisy, dark, and elevated environments.
- Comfort with working at heights and around water, and wearing respiratory protection.
- Physical ability to reach, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for repetitive tasks with tools and parts.
- Ability to read labels, gauges, and indicators accurately.
Effective verbal communication skills, including emergency situations and radio instructions.
