Job summary

Entergy Texas, Inc.-GTX seeks a Maintenance Operator II - Mechanical Technician to perform hands-on mechanical maintenance at a fossil power plant in Willis, TX. You will maintain pumps, piping, valves, and related equipment, weld for repairs, and read prints to troubleshoot systems.

The role requires use of drill presses, lathes, manual and power tools, and rigging with overhead cranes, plus adherence to safety procedures and willingness to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of diagnosing and repairing pumps, valves, piping, bearings, rigging, and overhead lifting; ability to weld.
  • Proficient with drill press, lathe, hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices.
  • Knowledge of welding, alignments, rigging, operating overhead and mobile cranes.
  • Ability to read prints and troubleshoot and maintain plant mechanical equipment.
  • Able to lift 100 lbs and to lift/carry 50 lbs.
  • Able to climb scaffolds, stairs, and ladders.
  • Team oriented with initiative and reliability; capable of working independently with clear communication.
  • Basic computer skills for Entergy Fossil applications and Maximo.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, identify, and repair power plant equipment; perform Lockout/Tag out per procedures.
  • Use mechanical measuring devices, shop machines, welding, laser alignment tools, and overhead cranes.
  • Understand operation of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping, and valves.
  • Comply with Fossil Safety Procedures and Policies.
  • Step up to Temporary Supervisor when needed.
  • Be available for overtime and adapt to plant conditions.

Job Title: Maintenance Operator II - Mechanical Technician

Job Purpose/Summary

Under general supervision, the incumbent will be responsible to Understand and Maintain a Good Working Knowledge of the various Power Plant Technical Systems. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing mechanical PM’s, welding on plate and pipe, perform alignments, troubleshooting equipment, ability to read prints, perform mechanical maintenance on pumps, piping, and equipment. Perform the use of hand tools, power tools, drill press, lathe, grinder, and threader. Also, the ability to use an overhead crane, rigging, and performance tools.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, identify, maintain, and make repairs to power plant equipment. Perform Lockout/Tag out of equipment for maintenance work following the Fossil Tagging Procedure.
  • Specific knowledge and use of mechanical measuring devices, hand tools, shop machines, welding, laser alignment tools, and overhead cranes.
  • Be familiar with principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, and valves of all types.
  • Comply with all Fossil Safety Procedures and Policies.
  • Step-up to Temporary Supervisor.
  • Be available to work overtime as needed. Be willing to work under unusual as well as normal working conditions pertaining to a power plant environment.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience
  • Desired:
    • Associate’s degree in Welding, Machinist, or Mechanics
Minimum Experience Required Of The Position
  • Maintenance Operator III: 1-3 years of experience in an industrial Mechanical Role or similar field
  • Maintenance Operator: 3 years’ experience in an Industrial Mechanical Role or similar field
  • Maintenance Technician: 5 years power plant experience or equivalent experience in a plant similar to a power plant working in Mechanical Maintenance
  • Desired:
    • 5 years of experience in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance
Required
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
  • Knowledge and demonstrated capabilities in the diagnoses and repairs pumps, valves, piping, bearings, rigging, overhead lifting, and ability to weld.
  • Proficient running drill press, lathes, hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring tools.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated capabilities welding, alignments, rigging, operating overhead and mobile cranes.
  • Ability to read Prints and Troubleshoot and Maintain Plant Mechanical Equipment
  • The ability to lift 100lbs. The ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
  • The ability to climb scaffolds, stairs, and ladders.
  • Must be Team Oriented and Self-Motivated. Must possess the initiative to perform task independently, provide timely and concise feedback upon request. Possess a winning attitude to achieve Departmental, Plant and Corporate Goals.
  • Should possess basic computer knowledge to obtain the required skills needed to use the Entergy Fossil Applications Time and Labor (Electronic Timesheet Application) and AIMM (Maintenance Management System) and Maximo.

  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test
