Job summary

Entergy in Louisiana Westwego seeks a Mechanical Technician to join the Div Ops team, performing routine maintenance, unit outages support, and multi-skill tasks to keep power generation plants running safely.

Candidate will operate machine tools, align equipment, weld when needed, manage outages, and handle electrical/instrument repairs while following safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Machinist/Millwright with minimum 5 years' experience in power plant environments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; machinist/millwright apprenticeship or trade school preferred.
  • Must meet EEI POSS/MASS testing requirements; Machinist/Millwright cert or experienced pump mechanic preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Bridgeport mill and lathe; perform large and small equipment alignment.
  • Welding and other multi-skill maintenance activities.
  • Support unit outages: contractor management, quality control, cost control, and scheduling.

Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro and petroleum coke plants, with total engineering capacity of over 18,500 megawatts and is building or acquiring more than 3,000 megawatts of new natural gas generation to join its 30,000 megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric and solar facilities.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Perform routine maintenance tasks and available for unscheduled call outs.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Primary skill is a Journeyman Machinist/Millwright capable of operating machine tool equipment which includes a Bridgeport and lathe
  • Also responsible for performing large and small equipment alignment
  • Welding may be required along with some other multi-skill activities
  • During unit outages, provide contractor management, quality control, cost management and schedule management
  • Perform other maintenance multi skill activities which include minor electrical, instrument and controls work/inspection/repair
  • Identify, troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems
  • Applied understanding of Power Plant system, starting & stopping equipment, isolating & restoring equipment for maintenance and monitoring turbine generator and large pumps
  • Ensures safety standards and practices are adhered to for the protection of personnel and equipment in accordance with Corporate, Environmental, Plant & OSHA policies, procedures & regulations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position:

  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Preferred:
  • Machinist/Millwright Apprenticeship or Trade School diploma/degree
Minimum experience required of the position:
  • Maintenance Operator III: 2-3 years of experience in operations or similar field
  • Maintenance Operator: 3 years of experience in operations or similar field
  • Mechanical Technician: At least 5 years Power Plant Operations and/or Maintenance experience
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:
  • Journeyman level Machinist/Millwright is primary skill (minimum 5 years, desired 10 years)
  • Understanding of the principles of mechanical/electronic tools, instruments, controls, measuring devices, gauges, mechanical equipment and piping systems
  • Familiar with the principles of operation of steam boilers, turbine-generators, motors, pumps, heaters, water chemistry equipment and simple loop controls
  • Understanding written & verbal communications and basic writing skills
  • Understand & operate a personal computer
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position:
  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test
  • Preferred:
  • Machinist/Millwright certificate or Experienced Pump Mechanic
