Job summary

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) seeks an experienced M&O Director to lead maintenance and operations for NASA facilities at Kennedy Space Center and CCSFS under the Spaceport Infrastructure, Maintenance, and Operations Contract. You will supervise PM/PTI and reactive maintenance across ~900 facilities, coordinating budgets, schedules and resources while ensuring safety and compliance.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in maintenance operations management, strong leadership and communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, engineering, or related field.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in maintenance operations management, including leadership of technical teams.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple complex projects.
• Expertise in project budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with stakeholders and team members.
• In-depth knowledge of safety compliance requirements and best practices in a technical environment.
• Strong knowledge and management of metrics for performance management and execution.
• Secret Clearance Required.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site and office-based support for maintenance and operations of FSEU, ensuring alignment with contract objectives.
• Assist estimators with task estimating for planning and resource allocation.
• Coordinate project budgets, schedules, materials, and personnel to ensure on-time delivery.
• Lead and guide technical staff, assign tasks, monitor performance, and resolve challenges to maintain productivity and quality.
• Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, addressing inquiries and providing updates.
• Document and present facilities status reports, highlighting progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
• Ensure compliance with NASA and OSHA safety and environmental regulations and procedures.
• Oversee daily management of work control activities, including work execution, supervision, and resource utilization.
• Drive process improvements to optimize efficiency, reliability, responsiveness, and reduce costs.

Job description

The M&O Director will provide leadership and support for maintaining and operating NASA facilities, systems, equipment, and utilities (FSEU) at Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) under the Spaceport Infrastructure, Maintenance, and Operations Contract. This role involves leading the preventive maintenance (PM), predictive testing and inspection (PTI), and reactive maintenance on assigned FSEU in approximately 900 facilities of varying complexity, coordinating project budgets, schedules, and resources while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and contract requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing technical teams, overseeing M&O execution, and serving as the primary point of contact for FSEU stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with NASA and OSHA safety and environmental regulations, policies, and procedures to maintain a secure and hazard-free work environment.
• Oversee daily management of work control activities, including work execution, personnel supervision, and resource utilization.
• Drive process improvements to optimize efficiency, reliability, responsiveness, and to reduce costs, and enhance project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in maintenance operations management, including leadership of technical teams.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills, with proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
• Expertise in project budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and team members.
• In-depth knowledge of safety compliance requirements and best practices in a technical environment.
• Strong knowledge and management of Metrics for performance management and execution
• Secret Clearance Required.

Desired Qualification:

• PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 19 years of relevant experience (4 additional years required in lieu of a degree).
• Previous experience managing maintenance and operations projects in a NASA or government contract environment.
• Familiarity with spaceport operations, infrastructure maintenance, and facilities management.
