Job Description

Employee will report to the Lycoming Valley Railroad at: 421 Reighard Avenue, Williamsport, PA

This is a safety-sensitive environment. Clean drug testing is mandatory. On-the-job training will be provided. The position involves routine maintenance on railroad tracks, bridges, and rights of way. As a CDL Driver, the employee will assist in transporting trucks and equipment for railroad work. The successful candidate will perform manual labor and work in a crew to complete assigned duties.

Typical workweeks are four 10-hour days, from 7AM to 5PM, Monday through Thursday, based out of our Lycoming Valley Railroad office in Williamsport, PA. Extra hours may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Replace cross ties, switch timbers, bridge timbers, and rails.
  • Perform crossing replacements.
  • Collaborate with tie and surfacing crews to repair track structures.
  • Cut and remove fallen trees.
  • Use hand tools (hammers, claw bars, shovels, etc.) and operate power tools (gas, pneumatic, hydraulic).
  • Operate hand-thrown switches.
  • Work to improve railroad infrastructure.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality.
  • Pass pre-employment background, physical fitness, and drug tests.
  • Willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Make quick, responsible safety decisions.
  • Visually and audibly detect trains or on-track equipment.
  • Perform physical labor (lift/move up to 60-100 lbs).
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven surfaces.
