Job Summary: This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing tools, equipment, and machines.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
  2. Inspect tools, equipment, and roadway machines.
  3. Troubleshoot malfunctions and perform maintenance and repair.
  4. Work with tools, machines, vehicles, and equipment.
  5. Plan, organize, and track information.
  6. Communicate with others orally or in writing.
  7. Direct the work of others.
  8. Work with printed information or on a computer.
  9. Understand and follow safety rules, practices, and procedures.
  10. Organize and maintain the Maintenance of Way Shop in a clean and orderly manner.
  11. Establish and maintain an inventory of parts and tools.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma /GED
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Possess a journeyman's card or provide documentation to verify 4 years of experience as a diesel mechanic or gas automotive/heavy equipment mechanic
  • Ability to use both high and low precision instruments for measurements
  • Ability to read and understand schematic drawings of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with large motor generators, high-voltage circuitry, electronics, and electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience with Railroad roadway machines like the 6700 Jackson Pandrol Tamper
  • Hi-rail qualification (must become qualified within 4 months)

Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy work involving lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling between 50 to 150 pounds
  • Auditory and visual acuity
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, balancing, climbing, standing, sitting
  • Walking on uneven surfaces
Environmental Conditions:
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, on uneven surfaces, around loud noise and fumes, in confined spaces, and at heights
Shifts/Hours:
  • May include nonstandard workweeks, overtime, and various shifts
Training and Compensation:
  • Company-paid on-the-job training, may require travel
  • Pay Rate: $39.44/hour
  • Probationary period: 45 days

  • Union membership and dues are required
  • TRRA is a drug-free company with random testing
  • Background screening and medical examinations may be required
