Maintenance of Way Manager - Rail Proposed Business

Key Accountabilities

• Organizes and ensures availability of materials, tools, and equipment necessary for crew operations.
• Coordinates workplace protection (RWP) for safety compliance.
• Prepares detailed documentation of inspections, including labor, materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Collaborates with Operations, Third-Party Contractors, and public agencies to ensure smooth coordination.
• Inspects work methods and site conditions to ensure safety, efficiency, and optimal use of labor and materials.
• Ensures compliance with all contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, company procedures, and budget constraints.
• Proactively addresses issues, responds to emerging situations, and manages extraordinary conditions effectively.
• Develops and maintains relevant maintenance procedures to support operational efficiency.
• Trains employees in proper work methods and best practices.
• Oversees development and management of overall maintenance budget.
• Actively participates in work activities, balancing hands‑on involvement with supervisory responsibilities.

Skills, Knowledge, & Experience

• A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in railroad freight and commuter Maintenance of Way operations.
• At least seven (7) years of experience managing Maintenance of Way crews.
• Previous qualification with a railroad to provide workplace protection (49 CFR 214).
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to foster and promote a safety‑first culture.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information at all levels.
• Proficient in computer applications, including the MS Office Suite.
• Proven record‑keeping abilities, in compliance with federal and company regulations.
• Capable of working under tight deadlines and maintaining composure in high‑pressure or emergency situations.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, walk at least 1 mile over tracks, lift a minimum of 50 lbs, distinguish colors, hear warning signals, and use communication devices (radio, telephone).
• Flexible to work shifts and be on call as needed.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
