Job summary

AMP is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic Technician in Portsmouth, VA, to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment such as balers and sort lines. You will perform preventive maintenance, coordinate with the Plant Manager, and ensure safety standards are met in a production environment.

The role demands reading schematics, pneumatic and hydraulic system expertise, and experience with motor/gearbox replacements and VFD troubleshooting. Strong safety focus required in a fast-paced facility.

Qualifications

• Equivalent of high school diploma or GED; technical certifications are highly desired.
• 3+ years of direct experience maintaining same or similar machinery in a production or processing environment.
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining pneumatic systems.
• Experience troubleshooting hydraulic equipment, circuits, and components.
• Experience reading technical drawings and schematics.
• Motor and Gearbox replacements.
• VFD troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all processing and support systems to specifications per safety regulations.
• Resolve technical issues during a shift; investigate and identify solutions.
• Increase equipment reliability through preventive maintenance and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate safe work behaviors and plant safety leadership.
• Coordinate with Plant Manager and operations.
• Support inspection and CMMS data entry for repairs.
