The Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for statewide vacancies in various correctional institutions. The role covers plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, drywall, roofing, masonry and related trades, with on‑the‑job inmate supervision and training as required.

Reports to a local FDC office; this is not a telework position and requires a valid Florida driver’s license.

Competenze

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of trade experience (plumbing, carpentry, welding, drywall, roofing or food service equipment repair) OR 4+ years of general maintenance experience.
• Valid Class E Driver’s License.

The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

This working position is responsible for the general maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of plumbing, electrical, cabinetry/carpentry, masonry, welding, HVAC, drywall, roofing, and associated systems necessary to operate a major institution.

• Responsible for general and preventive maintenance, and repair of various systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and more.
• Provides on-the-job training to supervised inmates in trades related to maintenance and repair tasks.
• Performs tests, maintains logs, and keeps records for equipment as per Department guidelines.
• Plans, organizes, and requisitions necessary parts for maintenance tasks, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
• Prepares reports and maintains custody and control of assigned inmates, participating in departmental training as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

• A high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in one of the following trades: plumbing, carpentry, welding, drywall, roofing, or food service equipment repair OR four or more years of general maintenance experience (College or vocational/technical training in one of the above listed trades may substitute for the required experience.)
• A Valid Class E Driver’s License

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
