Position Purpose
Perform maintenance, custodial, and grounds-keeping tasks that ensure the care and upkeep of school property.
Essential Functions
- Performs reactive maintenance activities such as drain clearing and faucet repair.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance activities based on best practices.
- Maintains a regular routine of cleaning clay traps, flushing floor drains, changing water filters, and more.
- Makes repairs within the scope of abilities.
- Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine, or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions.
- Performs pavement and asphalt maintenance activities, including snow and ice removal.
- Performs cleanup and worksite restoration activities, i.e., picking up litter, disposing of waste and debris, cleaning surfaces.
- Requests supplies as needed.
- Assists with custodial duties and building maintenance and repairs, as required.
- Assists with traffic flow for daily student drop off, pick up, and events. Assists in set ups for events (tables, chairs, signs).
- Attends staff meetings, open houses, special events, etc. as required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or his designee.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is preferred along with 5 years of related experience.
- The ability to operate standard custodial and grounds-keeping equipment.
- Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on health relationship building.
- Must have a current and valid driver's license.
- The ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment.
- The ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- The ability to ascertain which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly.
- The ability to perform basic first aid preferred.
- The ability to work on assigned weekend events.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances, and toxic/poisonous agents.
