This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain competitive positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Maintenance Mechanic and performs a variety of maintenance and repair functions in areas such as electrical, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, painting, roofing, water treatment, automotive, wastewater treatment, crane operation, and others.
Major Duties
- Uses a variety of electric arc processes.
- Performs as a heavy equipment operator of engineering and construction equipment, including but not limited to: bulldozers, graders, backhoes, trench diggers and front-end loaders.
- Utilizes established work orders, schedules, and standing verbal or written instructions to direct maintenance personnel to perform their duties.
- Assists in the maintenance and modifications of campgrounds, roads, recreation areas boats. Prepares areas for water line lay outs electrical lay outs campsite layouts.
- Makes minor repairs to engines and mechanical equipment, diesel, marine, and stationary engines, and heavy equipment such as crawler tractors mini ex.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with thisposition.
- The Government has a Licensing Program which includes but is not limited to Dump Truck,Truck and Trailer, Crane, Forklift, and Construction Equipment.
- Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a valid state sewage treatment plant operator'slicense commensurate with the level required to operate the project's sewage treatment plant(s).
- Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a valid state water treatment plant operator'slicense commensurate with the level required to operate the project's water plant(s).
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's licenseincluding all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment.
- Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. Incumbent must be able to lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position.
- Incumbent may be required to perform wildfire suppression duties.

- This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
- Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the DOT, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing.
- Required to observe established safe working procedures; and, wear appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic (MVO) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair tasks which includes operating a variety of heavy equipment; utilizing welding techniques to repair new or existing parts to floating, stationary, or mobile machinery equipment; and performing, planning, and/or preparing routine services of equipment and floating plant to ensure compliance for in-progress and/or final work. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions. Frequently handles objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and, occasionally lifts objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds when setting up work and equipment, and when completing assignments.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather. Work involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, cold, flying sparks, glare of torches and heated materials, possibility of eye injuries, electrical shock, burns, cuts, bruises, and sprains. Works on parts or systems which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Subject to drowning when working from boats. Subject to snake bites. Subject to hot, cold and inclement weather when working on a vessel and during field repairs. Subject to the motion of the vessel, and to the possibility of drowning when working on a floating vessel.
