Job description

The Maintenance Mechanic performs general maintenance, repair, fabrication, and installation work supporting the Medical Center operations. Receives assignments through work orders, supervisors, or emergency requests and independently prioritizes tasks. Resolves complex mechanical problems requiring custom fabrication, welding, machining, and system modifications. Exercises independent judgment to complete assignments efficiently, with work reviewed primarily for quality and results.

Major Duties
  • A Maintenance Mechanic performs the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and various repair tasks throughout the medical center, including the trades of Mechanical, Laboratory Equipment Technician, Electrical Equipment Repairing, Precision Machinist, Bio-Medical Equipment Technician, and plumbing. These overall duties should be at or near a journeymen level ability. Assigned tasks are generally not as technical as major repairs and installations as required by an employee classified in an individual trade. Mechanical: (50%) Inspects, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, assembles, PM's, and repairs various types of mechanical devices including but not limited to, appliances, kitchen equipment, surgical operating tables, server lines, electric and regular hospital beds, food processing equipment, pumps, dishwashers, exam tables & chairs, research equipment, ventilation equipment, Heavy construction Equipment, heat transfer and condensing units, Compressors, and various mechanical control devices. Must be able to use and interpret mechanical drawings and parts diagrams from manufacturers and suppliers. Must also be able to understand and work with different types of equipment and tools to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment properly and safely to manufacturer specifications. Precision Machinist (15%) Precision Machining: Utilizing machinery such as Computer Numerically Controls (CNC) lathes, mills, EDMs, Plasma cutters, cutters to create complex parts and fixtures. Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication: Operating a variety of sheet metal machinery and tooling. Lays out work, reads and interprets blueprints and technical publications, designs and draws working sketches. Welds ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys such as cobalt, chrome, nickel, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium. Welds butt, lap, tee, and corner joints in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead working positions. Welds metals and alloys by shielded gas welding (Heli-arc), metallic arc, oxyacetylene, and resistance welding processes. Laboratory Equipment Technician (10%) Inspects, installs, troubleshoots, Assembles, repairs, and PM's various types of Laboratory Equipment and devices such as Centrifuges, Incubators, thermocyclers, microscopes, Cincinnati OH, VAMC, PD# 93554-A tissue processors, Ultrasonic Processors, Thermal Cyclers, Test Chambers, Invitrogen Fluorometers, Chemical transfer pumps, Automated Gamma Counter, incumbent utilizes mechanical, electronic, and electrical skills, to trouble shoot and repair equipment as well as maintain with Preventative Maintenance schedules. Electrical Equipment Repairing (10%) Troubleshoots and repairs various types of electromechanical devices. Be able to read simple electrical diagrams in aid to help troubleshoot and repair equipment. Be able to understand and work safely with different voltages of electricity (24v,120v, and 240v) Must be able to use and interpret readings from various electrical measuring instruments such as amp-probes, multimeters, megohmmeters technical specifications, schematics, blueprints, and engineering drawings in planning and laying out, and completing the installation, modification, and repair of various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls. Bio-Medical Equipment Technician (10%) Inspects, installs, troubleshoots, Assembles, repairs, and PM's various types of medical equipment systems. Plumbing: (5%) Performs plumbing tasks, such as replacing or repairing faucets, ballcocks, steam lines, condensate lines, valves, diaphragms, garbage disposals, Dishwashers. Replaces defective pipes that are exposed such as on condensate drains, fittings, and connections. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD93554A Physical Requirements: The work involves standing, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, welding overhead and under equipment, confined spaces, and in tight places. As most of the duties are concerned with small to medium size equipment repair and fabrication and is physically demanding. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, Must be able to lift 80 LBS.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
