Job summary

BiOrigin Specialty Products seeks a Maintenance Mechanic - Millwright to join our Menominee, MI paper mill team. You will maintain and repair machinery, manage pump elements, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic components, and support other trades in a 24/7 operation.

Qualification includes a millwright license (433A) or equivalent, with welding skills considered a plus. Overtime or call-ins are expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Degree from Technical school or Certified Journeyman; 4–5 years related experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics; interpret technical instructions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair machinery and equipment in 24/7 paper mill operation.
• Perform pump element changes, gearboxes, conveyors and roll changes.
• Repair hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders and perform welding as needed.
• Assist other trades and perform fabrication as required.

Maintenance Mechanic - Millwright

In this role, you will be crucial in maintaining and repairing machinery and mechanical equipment, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and efficiently. Your expertise will help us sustain our commitment to high-quality production and operational excellence.

SUMMARY

Working within a team-based maintenance department, your responsibilities will include effective troubleshooting, repair, installations and preventative maintenance of the facility and equipment, essential in the 24-hour operation of the Paper Mill. Employees will be trained in other skills such as machinist, pipefitter, and welding to be qualified as a Maintenance Technician and will be expected to assist other trades as required.

Employee must have a millwright license (433A), and preference will be made to those that have welding skills.

Ability to work overtime/ call-ins is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Change a pump element, replace couplings, change out reducers/gearboxes
• Inspect and repair/replace conveyor pulleys, belts, chains, sheaves, and sprockets
• Paper Machine roll changes
• Replace and repair hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders
• Fabrication work such as brackets
• Alignment and rigging
• Work closely with other maintenance team members to ensure the smooth running of the plant in a 24/7 continuous operation environment
• Oxy/Acetylene cutting and burning
• Stick, TIG and MIG welding

Machinist Skills

• Lathe operation and drill press use
• Able to use calipers, micrometers (inside and out), dial indicators, etc.
• Read sketches and blueprints
• Milling machine operation – keyways
• Shop saw operation
• Repack and change valves
• Fabricate/repair threaded piping
• Disconnect piping to change out equipment and reconnect
• Replace gaskets
• Basic hydraulic/pneumatic troubleshooting and repair

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION:

• Degree from Technical school / Certified Journeyman required; with four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures.
• Ability to write correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical demands and Working conditions:

• Must be able to lift 50lbs and lift up to 100lbs with assistance.
• Physical demands include standing for long periods of time, walking, using hands and arms to handle, feel or reach, climb, balance, stoop, knee, crouch, and/or crawl in confined spaces.
• Exposure to moderate frequent noise and occasional loud noise, dust, heat, cold, dry and damp air.
