Job description

Responsibilities
  • Lead and work alongside personnel, setting the pace in welding, sheet metal fabrication, carpentry, roofing, masonry, locksmith, sign fabrication/installation, mold/asbestos removal, and related crafts areas.
  • Perform gas welding processes (electric arc/inert gas shielded, gas torch, manual, and combinations) to weld metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses.
  • Construct, install, modify, alter, repair, and replace sheet‑metal components of buildings and structures used in support of mission activities.
  • Plan and complete projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation.
  • Repair, overhaul, replace, and install various types of key locks in or on building structures, including key‑in knob, rim mortise, switch, mailboxes, cams, and pad locks.
Requirements
  • Appointment is subject to a suitability or fitness determination and a background investigation.
  • One‑year probationary period unless previously met under 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Compliance with “Mission Essential” designation and reporting during emergencies.
  • Occasional Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel.
  • Completion of a pre‑employment Physical Examination and annual examinations thereafter.
  • Valid state driver’s license in any U.S. state or possession.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb. during regular duties.
  • Preferred: Universal (Type I, II, III) Freon handling certification.
  • Ability or willingness to obtain required DOD or installation vehicle license.
  • Backflow Certification from AWWA or the State of North Carolina.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen- out Entity)
  • Ability to perform Maintenance Mechanic Leader duties without more than normal supervision.
  • Lead and work alongside personnel in welding, sheet metal fabrication, carpentry, roofing, masonry, locksmith, sign fabrication/installation, and mold/asbestos removal.
  • Ensure plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and inspect work in progress.
  • Repair and maintain electronic keying devices.
Education

No education qualification requirement.
