Foster Poultry Farms is seeking a Journey Level Mechanic to keep production equipment safe, reliable, and efficient. You will work with supervisors and the processing team to ensure quality output while upholding the company’s safety standards and guiding principles.

Qualified candidates have at least five years in industrial maintenance, strong electrical/mechanical skills, and the ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to safely operate welding and cutting equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure production equipment operates safely, reliably, and optimally.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment with minimal downtime.
  • Complete work orders, parts requisitions, and preventive maintenance on time.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and well-organized work areas and mentor lower-classification mechanics.

Position Summary

The Journey Level Mechanic will ensure production equipment is operating safely, reliably, and in optimal manner. This role works closely with the department supervisors, other department leads, and processing team members, in order to accomplish accuracy within the processing department and to ensure that our customers receive quality products. This position executes processes that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations, supporting Foster Poultry Farms' mission, vision, and ACTION guiding principles: Accountability, Collaboration, Truth-Seeking, Initiative, Ownership, and Nimbleness.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure production equipment is operating safely, reliable, and optimal manner.
  • Observe all plant equipment with intent of recommending continuous equipment improvement and reliability.
  • Consistently look for ways to improve or for ways to increase equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all related plant equipment in a timely manner and with minimum downtime demonstrating urgency and accuracy.
  • Complete work orders, part requisitions, and preventative maintenance orders on time and on schedule with accuracy and excellent craftsmanship.
  • Encourage good safety practice and ensure Good Manufacturing Practices are maintained within the department and promote engagement and leadership.
  • Train mechanics of lower classification and maintain a clean and safe well organize working environments for all.
  • Maintain a good working relationship and communication with all levels.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours on a wet concrete floor
  • Must be able to withstand a cold (40-48 degree) environment.
  • Must be able to withstand a hot (80+ degree) environment.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, varying shifts, and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and E-verify.
  • Must be able to read and write English legibly.
  • Must be detail oriented and proficient in mathematics.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must have basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels including management.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Decision making ability for the flagging of deviation from procedures.
  • Able to work safely and set an example of safe working habits for their coworkers.
  • Must be able to pass company Forklift assessments to obtain company issued Forklift license.
  • Must wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years industrial maintenance experience; preferably in the food industry.
  • Must also have a good understanding of electronics and PLC's.
  • Must be able to expertly troubleshoot and have the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Must be able to expertly use welding and cutting equipment and be proficient in all aspects of plant maintenance system and operation.
  • Must be capable of understanding electrical controls, wiring devises, motor controls, VFD's, relay logic and solid-state devices and controls.
  • Must be familiar with pumps, understand gear ratios, operate hand and power tools effectively and safely using proper PPE.
  • Must have a good understanding of salient OSHA standards and guidelines.
  • Must have knowledge and good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment functions and be able to effectively troubleshoot and repair.
  • Must have metal fabrication skills as well as mill and lathe knowledge.
