Job summary

Valmont Industries based in Brenham, Texas is currently seeking a Mobile Maintenance Mechanic. Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, you will focus on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.

The position involves performing repairs on all plant equipment, with a starting hourly pay of $26.07. You will also have opportunities for step pay increases and annual discretionary bonuses.

Strong background in mechanical systems and safety practices is essential along with three years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Three years' experience in a related field, or qualified progression from Mechanic II.
  • Must have knowledge of diesel and gas engines, and electronic diagnosis.

Job description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mobile Maintenance Mechanic will direct all activities regarding all technical work involving installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.

Schedule & Compensation

1st Shift Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday 7AM - 3PM. As needed, there will be work hours required outside the Standard Shift Schedule. Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG8): $26.07. Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year and 2 years. Eligible for annual discretionary bonus.

Essential Functions
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and facilities.
  • Performs diagnosis, testing, disassembly, inspecting, repair and re‑assembly of plant equipment, forklift, straddle trucks, shag trucks, golf carts, and company vehicles.
  • Performs skilled troubleshooting and servicing of pneumatic and hydraulic components.
  • Performs proper replacement and/or adjustment of mechanical clutches, drive trains, etc.
  • Repair of worn parts, straighten and fabricate fixtures (welding, cutting, brazing, and surface hardening applications).
  • Be able to troubleshoot electrical circuits, 12‑48 volt DC.
  • Change and repair multiple tire sizes and styles.
  • Assist junior personnel and operators in proper direction of equipment repairs.
  • Ability to perform major and general repairs on all equipment.
  • Required to record labor and material used on each repair made.
  • Required to take proper care and use of test equipment.
  • Required to properly use lift equipment (cranes, booms, man lifts, cherry picker, etc.).
  • Exercise communication skills pertaining to the job.
  • Occasionally will be called during irregular hours to handle production coverage with little or no supervision.
  • Reports all abnormal conditions and safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Will perform housekeeping and other routine tasks as directed.
  • Maintain safe working practices, including Lockout/Tag Out procedures and other safety procedures.
  • Lift, carry, bend, kneel, stretch, stoop, and work in awkward and/or confined positions.
  • Works in a team environment.
  • Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Make management aware of any training needs you have.
  • Consult your management immediately if you are being asked to perform work for which you do not have training or you are not comfortable doing because of potential safety or risk implications.
  • Computer Software: MS Office, Outlook, Excel, IFS, TMS.
Required Qualifications
  • Three years’ experience in related field, or qualified progression from Mechanic II.
  • Must be able to use tire changing equipment and tools.
  • Must have knowledge of diesel and gas engines and transmissions.
  • Must know how to work and diagnose hydraulic systems.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot DC voltages.
  • Read and write clearly.
  • Basic shop math: multiplication, division, decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
  • Four+ years’ experience as an Industrial Mechanic.
  • Four+ years’ experience working with pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • PC literate (PLC software, Windows, etc.).
  • Be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results for internal and external customers.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts

Work is typically performed in an office setting. Incumbent sits for extended periods, talks and listens on the phone, and participates in meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding. No travel requirements.

The employee frequently uses hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Occasionally must move about the office. Must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions and keyboard location and height. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception. Incumbent will be exposed to production facilities where personal protective equipment (hand, hearing, foot, eye, head protection) will be required. Frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods. Being outside will also involve material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
