Job Summary

The Skilled Maintenance Mechanic reports to the maintenance leader and is responsible for installing, modifying, and maintaining mechanical and other equipment/systems in the plant. The incumbent must be competent in millwright skills plus any of the following: pipefitting, welding, and sheet metal.

1. The Skilled Mechanic should have knowledge of chemical plant equipment and be able to learn specific process operations, systems, and personnel efficiently. They will become capable of independently installing, modifying, and maintaining mechanical and other equipment.
2. Interpret schematic drawings and vendor documentation to perform tasks effectively.
3. Design, plan, and construct special devices, supports, and components for equipment as needed.
4. Withdraw equipment, components, and materials from the stockroom inventory system and order materials from vendors as required.
5. Identify mechanical or other issues and initiate corrective measures independently.
6. Perform routine maintenance using the work order system and work management process.
7. Understand and adhere to critical quality, environmental, and safety policies and procedures.
8. Participate actively in departmental meetings and work sessions.
9. Install complex piping systems by cutting, preparing, and assembling piping components efficiently.
10. Prepare metal components for welding and perform the appropriate welding processes.
11. Understand and execute detailed machine shop practices with quality and precision.

Requirements:

• Availability for overtime, emergency call-ins, and call-outs is required. Maintain a working telephone number with message capabilities.
• Ability to communicate via e-mail, radio, and other standard means.
• Lift 40 pounds routinely and heavier weights occasionally, with assistance or lifting devices. Capable of climbing, stooping, squatting, and working in confined or difficult-to-reach areas.
• An associate's degree in industrial maintenance or completion of a craft apprenticeship-to-journeyman training is preferred. Chemical plant maintenance experience is beneficial.
• Proficiency in using a personal computer, including applications such as Microsoft Teams, email, SAP, Excel, and Word, is essential.
