Job Summary

The position is responsible for all phases of maintenance duties in the repair and alteration of buildings, equipment, facilities, and for physical plant operation. The role also involves leading and training lesser experienced engineering staff.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

License/Certifications: One of the following is required:

  • American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE): Mechanic Evaluation and Certification for Health Care (MECH).
  • Building Owners and Managers Institute Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT), or Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA) Certification.
  • Maintenance Electrician License.
  • 3rd Grade or higher Stationary Engineers License.
  • Craft or Trade Certification, Trade Apprenticeship Completion, or a Military craft or trade rating.
  • Specialty license (e.g., HVAC, Refrigerant Recovery).

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Minimum of five (5) or more years' experience in general building maintenance functions.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and/or written instructions.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs routine servicing and repair operations to maintain hospital buildings, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition.
  • Performs urgent, corrective, routine, and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems; performs preventative maintenance and maintains related records.
  • Maintains and repairs HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency in environmentally controlled areas.
  • Ensures safety for patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary constraints, including time and supply management.
  • Supports professional growth through mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, and contributes to departmental goals; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
