Job summary

Latitude 36 Foods is seeking a maintenance technician to set up, adjust, repair and maintain packaging machines and related equipment in a USDA/FDA production environment. The role operates primarily on the mid to third shift, with overtime and weekend hours as required.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, machine changeovers, safety compliance, and collaboration with operators and leadership.

Qualifications

• Must adhere to all food safety and personal safety requirements.
• Applicable technical certification is preferred.
• Electrical troubleshooting and repair skills are preferred.
• Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills are preferred.
• Food Manufacturing or packaging experience is preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred.
• Basic computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure “Safety First” is always practiced and adheres to all job safety rules.
• Adhere to all safety procedures including Machine Guarding, LOTO, IIPP, etc.
• Analyzes mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment and plans for and takes corrective action.
• Reviews production schedule and when equipment is not scheduled for manufacturing, changes over equipment to new sizes or performs scheduled maintenance.
• Put together preventive maintenance reports.
• Tests equipment to check operation and clears jams and inspects products.
• Examines, tests, and measures product from assigned equipment for quality specifications.
• Makes preventive maintenance checks and inspects assigned equipment, reports findings to supervisor.
• Examines defects and analyzes spoilage causes and corrective actions.
• Assists line operators and packers and service personnel as needed.
• Notifies maintenance manager of recurring malfunctions and quality problems.
• Instructs and directs maintenance trainees.
• Will conduct preventative maintenance as scheduled.
• May operate equipment during relief periods.
• Abide by GMP and SOPs.
• Report Food Defense observations to Quality Teams.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Pay Rate: $29.75/hr.

Additional Compensation Benefits

Shift Differential: $0.50/hr. while working on 3rd shift.

• Reviews production schedule and when equipment is not scheduled for manufacturing, changes over equipment to new sizes or performs scheduled maintenance.
• Put together preventive maintenance reports.
• Tests equipment to check operation. Clears jams and sets aside product for inspection and rework. Tries out equipment after repairs, changeovers or extended downtime.
• Examines, tests, and measures product from assigned equipment for quality specifications, using gauges and instruments, and records data on appropriate forms. Checks product for visual defects.
• Makes preventive maintenance check and inspection of assigned equipment, reports findings to supervisor and takes appropriate action.
• Examines defects and analyzes spoilage causes and, where possible, takes corrective action. Analyzes and records cause of production delays on daily production report.
• Assists line operators and packers and service personnel, such as lift truck operators as needed.
• Notifies maintenance manager or supervisor and lead mechanic of recurring equipment malfunctions and corrective action taken, and of quality problems or supplies needed.
• Instructs and directs any maintenance trainees assigned.
• Will conduct preventative maintenance as scheduled.
• May operate equipment during relief periods.
• Abide by ALL Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SOPs.
• Responsible for reporting Food Defense observations to Quality Teams.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Physical Requirements/Environment

• Ability to stand for long periods of time with extensive walking and working in refrigerated coolers (34F+).
• Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, twist, sit, climb stairs, and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Repetitive lifting, push, pulling up to 50 pounds.
• Normal vision, hearing sensitivity and manual dexterity is necessary.
• Must be able to utilize P.I.T. equipment, such as forklift or other lifting devices, to be able to work at heights.
• Ability to climb ladders.
• Ability to crawl under and climb onto machinery and equipment.
