Job summary

ABM is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to join our facilities team in Boston. The role involves inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and building systems to ensure reliable operations across our client sites.

You will perform preventive maintenance, monitor building automation, and respond to service requests and emergencies, with opportunities for professional growth and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; trade school training preferred.
  • 1–3 years in commercial building or facilities maintenance.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building automation knowledge.
  • Diagnose issues and perform preventive and corrective maintenance independently.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read technical documents, manuals, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Proficient with maintenance management systems and basic computer apps.
  • Work independently or with a team in a customer-focused environment.
  • Able to climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in confined spaces.
  • Available for after-hours, weekend, and emergency call-in assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, pumps, and other building systems and equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and corrective repairs to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Conduct daily facility rounds to identify operational issues, safety hazards, leaks, temperature concerns, and other maintenance needs.
  • Monitor and maintain building automation and control systems to support efficient facility operations.
  • Respond promptly to service requests, equipment failures, and emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate equipment status, repair recommendations, and operational concerns to management.
  • Support facility safety programs and comply with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with facility management and other maintenance team members to complete daily assignments and special projects.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedules and provide emergency response support as required.

  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in commercial building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building automation systems.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment issues and perform preventive and corrective maintenance independently.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, manuals, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Proficiency using maintenance management systems and basic computer applications preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a customer-focused environment.
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, walk for extended periods, and perform physical maintenance activities including bending, kneeling, crouching, and working in confined spaces.
  • Must be available for after-hours, weekend, and emergency call-in assignments as needed.
