Maintenance Mechanic Helper – DC Washington JBAB L99 IUOE (DC 20032)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay Range: $42.49 hourly

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Travel: Up to 25%

Security Clearance: TS (Current TS/SCI preferred, must possess minimum TS Clearance with ability to obtain SCI)

Position Overview and Primary Duties

Alutiiq Logistics and Maintenance Services, LLC is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic Helper who will support the Maintenance Mechanic in performing maintenance and repairs on all equipment under the direct supervision of the Lead Engineer or Project Manager. This role includes assisting with HVAC systems installation, servicing, and repairs, and following detailed orders and instructions.

  • Preventive Maintenance Assistance
    • Help conduct regular inspections of machinery, equipment, and systems to identify any issues.
    • Assist in performing scheduled maintenance tasks such as lubricating, cleaning, and replacing worn parts to prevent breakdowns.
  • Repairs and Troubleshooting Assistance
    • Support in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems with equipment.
    • Help repair or replace defective parts using hand tools and power tools.
    • Assist in testing equipment to ensure proper functionality after repairs.
  • Installation and Upgrades Assistance
    • Aid in the installation of new machinery and equipment.
    • Assist in upgrading existing systems to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Documentation and Reporting Assistance
    • Help maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
    • Assist in reporting any significant issues or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Safety and Compliance Assistance
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.
    • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies and industry standards.
  • HVAC Systems Assistance
    • Assist in installing, servicing, and repairing environmental-control systems in various establishments.
    • Help mount compressor and condenser units, fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts.
    • Support in cutting and bending tubing to correct length and shape, threading pipe, and joining tubing or pipes to refrigerating units.
    • Assist in connecting motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
    • Help install air and water filters, inject refrigerant, observe pressure and vacuum gauges, and adjust controls.
    • Aid in testing joints and connections for gas leaks, wrapping pipes in insulation, and replacing defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical or vocational training in mechanical maintenance is preferred.
  • Some experience or training in maintenance and repair of industrial machinery and equipment, including HVAC systems, is preferred.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics is a plus.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Current TS/SCI preferred, must possess minimum TS Clearance with ability to obtain SCI.
