Position Summary

Baptist Health Walker Hospital:

Recognized by The Joint Commission, Baptist Health Walker Hospital is a 267-bed facility located in Jasper and committed to serving the diverse needs of our growing community. Among the comprehensive and compassionate services offered are bariatrics, behavioral health, cardiac care, emergency services, gynecology, neurology, obstetrics, orthopedics, physical therapy, advanced stroke treatment, surgical care, and urology.

Position Summary

Performs diverse duties including emergency and preventive maintenance of electrical distribution, mechanical systems, HVAC, power generation, plumbing, pneumatic tube systems, medical gas systems, and building structures, as well as fulfilling the requirements of various departments.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with outside contractors as needed.
  • Works within OSHA safety standards.
  • Requisitions necessary supplies and tools.
  • Solicits assistance from other Engineering department personnel for efficient completion of tasks.
  • Performs routine and emergency repairs and maintenance on structures and equipment in assigned areas.
  • Assists other engineering trades as required by workload or emergencies, including inclement weather conditions.
  • Detects and reports faulty equipment, improper operations, or unusual conditions to supervisors.
  • Maintains records to ensure compliance with state, federal, and Joint Commission regulations.
  • Coordinates, conducts, and documents fire and life safety measures, including inspections and procedures, in collaboration with Safety and Security departments.
  • Trains other engineers in specific skills and conducts in-services as needed.
  • Maintains equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follows all safety regulations, including responding to Code Calls. Performs minor repairs from requests.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance per hospital policies and applicable laws.
  • Complies with all hospital policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification: Valid Alabama driver’s license and insurability under hospital insurance requirements. Maintenance mechanics unable to meet this requirement after 90 days must sign a "No Driving" document, kept in their department file, until approved to drive again.

Experience: At least three (3) years of trade or mechanical work experience, including automotive, industrial, or hospitality sectors. Graduates of trade or vocational schools require one (1) year of experience.
