Job Summary
Position Summary
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
The Maintenance Mechanic plays a vital role in ensuring the hospital's facilities are operating efficiently and safely to support high-quality patient care. This position involves performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks across all buildings and areas on the hospital campus, prioritizing safety, sanitation, and comfort for patients, staff, and visitors.
Essential Functions
Responding to Emergencies and Routine Maintenance
Prioritize and address emergency calls, including Code Red, Code Triage, flooding, and electrical failures, with immediate action to ensure safety.
Handle routine trouble calls, such as blocked sinks and pneumatic tube resets, responding to 100% of assigned calls per shift.
Accurately document the nature of issues and steps taken to resolve them.
Repair and Maintenance
Perform repairs on mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment, including carts, dietary tools, dish machines, disposals, and pneumatic systems, ensuring an 80% task completion rate.
Conduct plumbing repairs (e.g., fixing minor leaks, clearing blockages) within the scope of State plumbing codes for non-licensed plumbers.
Repair structural systems (e.g., doors, locks, floors, ceilings) and assist in external building repairs (e.g., roofing, glazing, and caulking).
Preventive Maintenance
Execute preventive maintenance on mechanical and fire protection systems to minimize equipment downtime and adhere to fire codes.
Perform weekly inspections of fire sprinkler system isolation/zone valves and related components.
Work Order Management
Expedite ancillary tasks, including moving bulletin boards and assembling furniture, to support daily departmental operations.
Complete at least 80% of work orders within 60 days of issue as per departmental policy.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Licenses and Credentials
Experience
A minimum of two years of Maintenance Mechanic experience is required, and Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- It is required that a Maintenance Mechanic can read and write in English, and the Maintenance mechanic must be able to effectively communicate with staff, vendors, patients, and visitors.
- Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards.
- The Maintenance Mechanic should be a mechanically inclined individual who is familiar with the use of common hand and power tools.
- The Maintenance Mechanic must follow all product use and warning instructions on all product packaging and ensure that all products purchased and stocked have an MSDS on file with the Assistant Director of Facilities.
