Job summary

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, lubrication and cleaning of county equipment.
• Inspect boilers, chillers, HVAC, pumps and belts for repair.
• Inspect and repair operating equipment and make adjustments as needed.
• Maintain buildings, facilities and grounds.
• Electrical repairs: bulbs, ballast, switches, outlets.
• Plumbing repairs and installations; sewer/ drain cleaning.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties

Performs tasks pertaining to the maintenance and repair, installation, testing and preventing maintenance of old and new equipment and the Buildings and Grounds of Davison County Public Safety which includes the Davison County Jail.

Knowledge of the following trades: Mechanical, Carpentry, Drywall repair, Welding and repair, Plumbing‑sewer cleaning and repair, Electrical‑testing, repair and replacement and Janitorial are an essential part of this job.

This job does involve being available for call‑in during off hours and weekends as needed.

Works under immediate supervision of the Director of Physical Plants.

Examples of Duties

1. Perform routine maintenance, lubrication and cleaning of all County owned equipment.
2. Boiler, Chiller, HVAC, Pumps and belts inspection and repair.
3. Inspection of operating equipment and making repairs or adjustments when necessary.
4. Maintenance and repairs for the building, facilities and grounds assigned.
5. Electrical repair and minor installation jobs. Bulbs, ballast, switches and outlet replacement.
6. Plumbing repairs and installation. Sewer and drain cleaning and repair. Showers, faucets, stools and trap installation and repair.
7. Carpentry fabrication and repair. Drywall repairs, Painting, Fabrication of projects.
8. Welding repair and fabrication.
9. Snow/Ice removal includes parking lot, sidewalks and doorways.
10. Lawn and Landscape care. Mowing grass, weed eating, edging, removal of leaves and trimming and cutting trees.
11. Complete work requisitions as assigned.
12. Work with Security and Alarm systems.
13. Will be required to do custodial duties.
14. May include some early, late and weekend hours with the ability to adjust hours for certain projects or events. Required to perform tasks on an ‘on call’ basis as deemed necessary.
15. Perform all duties in a safe and mannerly order.
16. Maintain work areas and equipment in a neat, clean and orderly fashion.
17. May be required to provide repairs or services to other areas of the governmental complexes and other County owned property on a regular basis.
18. May be required to fill‑in or help with Maintenance/Custodial responsibilities during times of constraint, vacation and sick leave at other County Buildings or as deemed necessary by the Director of Physical Plants.
19. Perform other duties as required or assigned to maintain and keep Davison County property and operations functional.
20. Knowledge to operate equipment used on buildings and grounds complexes. Pickup/snowplow, skid steer, tractor, loader, blade, snowblower, mower, weed eaters, edger, chainsaw, pole saw, blower/vac, sewer cleaning machines, pressure washer, compressor, welder, torch, scrubber, carpet shampooer vacuum and power tools such as drills, saws, grinders, routers and electrical meters/testers and basic hand tools, impact and manual wrenches. This list may not include all equipment or tools used in this job.

Education

A high school diploma or GED Certificate and as provided for in the South Dakota Code of Laws.

Experience

Previous Maintenance work desirable.
