Job summary

Martin Marietta seeks a skilled millwright to repair and maintain plant equipment across conveyors, crushers, pumps and gear drives. You will read blueprints, perform mechanical and welding tasks, and ensure precise alignments and safe operation.

Candidates must have at least four years of millwright experience, read drawings, pass welding tests, and work with minimal supervision across all shifts; a written aptitude test and industrial repair experience are included.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years of millwright experience.
• Must be able to read and understand blueprints and equipment instructions.
• Must be able to weld with proficiency to pass a Company welding test (electrical arc and oxygen/acetylene).
• Must be familiar with safety in the maintenance field.
• Capable of working with minimum supervision.
• Able to work all shifts.
• Written test will be part of aptitude evaluation.
• Experience in industrial construction/repair counts.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine procedures.
• Dismantle machinery or equipment using hand tools.
• Move machinery using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
• Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools.
• Construct foundations for machines using building materials.
• Align machines and equipment with precision tools.
• Assemble machinery and bolt, weld or fasten to foundations or structures.
• May operate machine tools to finish parts.
• Repair and lubricate machinery and equipment.
• Select cables, ropes, chains and pulleys to move loads.
• Attach loads to crane hooks using grappling devices.
• Set up lifting equipment and rigging.
• May direct workers engaged in hoisting.

Repairs and maintains plant equipment as assigned, including electric and gas welding, hydraulics, rigging, pipe fitting, pumps, air compressors, vacuum pumps, bearings and seals, power transmissions, gear boxes, equipment settings and alignment.

Job Requirements

• Must have a minimum set of hand tools as specified by the Company.
• Previous experience must include a minimum of four years as a millwright.
• Must be able to read and understand blueprints and equipment instructions.
• Must be able to weld with enough proficiency to pass a Company welding test in both electrical arc and oxygen/acetylene welding and understand the safe handling of welding equipment.
• Must be able to determine what type of rod to use on different types of steel and cast iron.
• Must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of safety in the maintenance field.
• Must be capable of working with a minimum of supervision.
• Must be able to work all shifts.
• A written test will be given as part of the company's evaluation of aptitude for the job.

Job includes but is not limited to: repair of conveyor belts, bucket elevators, crushers, ball mills, screens, pumps, etc. Experience in industrial construction and/or repair may count.

All work described above to be done in an efficient and workman-like manner. This position is subject to duties as assigned. This position is subject to shift work.

Job requires a thorough knowledge of the load bearing capabilities of the equipment used as well as an understanding of blueprints and technical instructions. Primary purpose of installing, maintaining, upgrading, and fabricating machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishment.

Typical Duties

• Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Dismantle machinery or equipment, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
• Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
• Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails, using hand tools and power tools.
• Constructs foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials, such as wood cement, and steel.
• Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, lasers, and plumb bobs.
• Assembles machinery and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
• May operate engine lathe or milling machine to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
• Required repair and lubricate machinery and equipment.
• Selects cables, ropes, chains, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
• Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook.
• Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.
• May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment.
• In addition, may perform all duties of General Laborer, Skilled Laborer and Carpenter and possibly electrician.

Physical Requirements

• Coordinate eye-hand movements.

• Climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures.
• See and hear well (either naturally or with correction).
• Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Stoop, lay, bend or squat for long periods of time.
