A leading state department is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform essential maintenance work and develop mechanical skills. The role involves working with power tools and providing excellent customer service while collaborating with other trades. Applicants should have a high school diploma and a positive attitude.
The Department of Technology, Management and Budget supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.
The employee performs maintenance work under the direction of a higher-level Maintenance mechanic, and other trades crew leaders as necessary, while developing mechanical skills and performing other essential trade duties. The employee will work in concert with other trainees and trades to perform a full range of maintenance mechanic assignments for projects on state properties as required for maintenance, construction, and remodeling. The employee will develop skills to use a wide range of power tools and other equipment appropriate to the work. Additionally, the employee will develop interpersonal skills to provide customer service with courtesy, respect, and attention to detail. This role requires working cooperatively with staff and maintaining a customer service orientation by expressing a positive and helpful attitude during daily interactions.

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the mechanical or electrical trades may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers.
Some positions in this job series may require certification or registration as a pesticide applicator in compliance with the Pesticide Control Act of 1976. Others may require possession of a commercial driver's license issued by the Secretary of State as mandated by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate designated state vehicles.
