Job summary

Northeast Georgia Health System is seeking a skilled trades professional to install, repair, replace, and inspect pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain heating, water, gas and drainage systems. This role operates with minimal supervision and requires strong problem-solving in a hospital maintenance environment.

The candidate should have an Associate degree in a technical field and 1 year of related experience, or 3 years in lieu of the degree.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a technical field; 1 year of experience if degree, or 3 years of experience without the degree.
• Proficient in use of all tools and equipment associated with the trade.
• Electrical, mechanical and plumbing skills.
• Safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Represents the department as knowledge professional technician. Communicates service status and updates work requests from start to completion.
• Understands and operates major building systems including boiler plant, chiller plant, generator plant, med air/vac pumps, sprinkler system, fire pump, fire alarm, and hot/cold domestic systems.
• Analyzes and corrects problems in building maintenance; troubleshoots and repairs lighting, receptacles, exit lights, ballast replacements; orders parts; fixes leaks and plumbing issues.
• Prioritizes work, organizes tools and materials, teams with others, sets up work a day ahead to begin promptly, and adheres to the Plant Operations Priority System.
• Uses appropriate personal protective equipment.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

• Represents the department as knowledge professional technician. States the nature of service being responded to, patient or staff. Updates the originator of work requests of all progress up to and including completion of work. Documents all work and time spent in a prompt and detailed fashion on work request.

• Understands and operates all major components of essential systems, including: boiler plant, chiller plant, generator plant, med air and vac pumps, sprinkler system and fire pump, fire alarm, and the workings of hot and cold domestic systems.

• Analyzes and corrects problems related to normal building maintenance situations. Troubleshoots and repairs patient room lighting, receptacles, exit lights and ballast replacements. Analyzes mechanical problems and orders proper parts needed for repairs. Corrects common plumbing related problems, i.e., sink faucets, traps, flush valves, shut-off valves, vacuum breakers, etc. Evaluates and repairs all leaks above ceiling, i.e., roof leaks, a/c condensation, plumbing, etc.

• Prioritizes work to show good judgment in time management. Responsible for organizing tools and specific job assignment material support. Sets up work at least one day ahead to allow work to begin promptly at beginning of shift. Keeps up with all work assignments and responds to each in a timely manner. Accomplishes work according to Plant Operations Priority System.

• Correctly utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment.
