Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CBCC)
Full Time - Permanent
The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Maintenance Mechanic 4 at Clallam Bay Corrections Center.
Clallam Bay Corrections Center is a 900-bed male facility located on the point of the Olympic Peninsula. It is 50 miles west of Port Angeles and looks out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Vancouver Island. This facility houses medium and close custody incarcerated individuals. CBCC also operates a Restricted Housing Unit.
Typical duties of a Maintenance Mechanic 4 - Locksmith include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for repairs, replacement, and preventive maintenance of all locking devices on doors, sliders, gates to include keys, opening and closing mechanical equipment, pinning, keying and installation of facility lock cores.
- Review Service Requests (SR), inspect and determine the need for repair/replacement, scope of work, and materials parts needed, and order.
- Perform skilled locksmith work, including maintenance and repairs of cores, cylinders, keys and key management systems.
- Make and issue keys, pin cores using and maintaining core and cylinder pinning equipment, key duplicating machines, code cutting key machines, drill press, and any hand and power tools required for accomplishing work.
- Perform a variety of duties in skilled locking systems repair and installation work to include machining parts, welding, and electronic entry and door positioning lock systems and gate locking systems.
- Read plans and electrical schematics to ensure proper completion and compliance with local and state codes.
- Ensure that all safety and security procedures are followed per CBCC policies and procedures: Tool Control, Key Control, Ladder and Lift procedures, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout.
- Perform emergency keying and opening services on locks and safes.
- Program and maintain multiple automatic Key Watcher key ring management systems.
- Order key blanks, lock parts, locksets, latches, and other materials and maintain an adequate inventory of required materials.
- Conduct a preventive maintenance program for assigned machinery and locking systems throughout the facility.
- Estimate cost of proposed locking device installation or revisions; make recommendations for hardware types.
- Maintain an inventory of all inactive keys, key blanks, and key machines.
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, AND
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License, AND
- Electrical EL01, EL06, or EL10 license.
*** Three years’ experience in a full-time locksmith apprentice or higher capacity which includes electronic locking mechanisms will substitute for professional license requirement.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade and two years of experience as a journey-level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work.
