Job Description: Maintenance Mechanic/Technician

Job Type: Direct Hire

Shift: 2nd Shift: 3pm-11:30pm

Pay: $32-36/hr + Differential

Location: Skokie, IL

Summary

Join a leading manufacturer in the food/confectionery industry. Candidates should have 2-3+ years of maintenance experience in food manufacturing. The Maintenance Mechanic will safely install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on industrial food equipment used in production, office, and utility areas.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Report food safety and quality issues to authorized personnel.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, and relay logic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Communicate equipment breakdowns to shift dispatchers.
  • Move equipment using standard lifting, rigging, hoisting, and rolling methods.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and professionalism in work practices.
  • Assess situations, develop solutions, and estimate work timeframes.
  • Research and compile parts lists for repairs.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Complete work efficiently and document work details accurately.
  • Read manuals and interpret schematics for troubleshooting.
  • Promote positive work relationships and perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
  • Standing on concrete floors.
  • Wearing PPE (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, uniform).
  • Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Working weekends during peak seasons.
Knowledge and Skills
  • High school diploma or GED; technical degree in maintenance or 5+ years of experience in maintenance, with 2+ in food manufacturing.
  • Basic math skills and measurement abilities.
  • Troubleshooting skills without supervision.
  • Ability to read instructions, electrical schematics, and diagrams.
  • Understanding of mechanical equipment and machinery.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, power transmission, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, and fabrication.
  • Ability to operate shop and portable tools.
Training Requirements
  • Employee safety, food safety, HR policies, and Maintimizer system training.
