Job description

About Technical Operations

BioMarin's Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists, and support staff build and maintain BioMarin's cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

Summary
This is a swing shift position, Wednesday through Saturday, 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM. Responsible for the operation and preventive maintenance (per SOP requirements) of all purified water systems (RO, DI, WFI) and associated equipment, pure steam generators, plant steam boilers, air compressors, vacuum systems, chillers, HVAC units, and associated equipment, and other miscellaneous equipment that supports the manufacturing facilities. Able to assist with performing preventive maintenance on process and manufacturing support equipment.

Responsibilities

  1. Make daily planned inspection of facilities equipment and services, taking action as required.
  2. SME on at least 1 system or equipment (Utility or process).
  3. Perform various projects including plumbing, electrical, and mechanical projects.
  4. Execute preventative maintenance and repair work orders.
  5. Able to independently perform preventive maintenance or repair work orders with little or no oversight.
  6. Maintain detailed and accurate records as necessary, to maintain GMP and department procedure compliance.
  7. Revise Standard Operating Procedures when required.
  8. Start-up new mechanical systems under the direction of a Sr. Mechanic.
  9. Perform troubleshooting, evaluation, and repair of utility and process systems.
  10. Maintain quality and integrity of preventive maintenance documentation using the CMMS system.
  11. Assist the Maintenance Planner or Scheduler on scope of work when required.
  12. Provide backup assistance for the Supervisor or lead mechanic when required.
  13. Other projects/tasks as assigned by supervisor or management.
  14. Maintain communication between each maintenance shifts via the shift pass down updates.
  15. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  16. Participate as a BERT team member.

Experience

Minimum 2+ years’ experience in highly regulated industry or GMP environment.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma, College degree (Associates/Bachelors), Technical Certification, military technical training, or equivalent experience or Journeyman skill level in a trade.

Utilities: Purified water systems (RO, DI, WFI) and associated equipment, pure steam generators, plant steam boilers, air compressors, vacuum systems, chillers, HVAC units and associated equipment, hot HVAC water boilers, and other miscellaneous equipment.
Process: Autoclaves, Glassware washer, Bioreactors, Chromatography skids, Media and Buffer tanks, CIP skids, fermenters, Ultra filtration, cold rooms, HTST system, Homogenizer, Centrifuges, heat tanks and some other associated equipment.
