Job summary

D&W Fine Pack in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a maintenance technician to support plant operations. You will follow safety procedures, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment to keep our packaging lines running smoothly.

Ideal candidates read and write in English, have a high school or higher education, and can work with PPE and lockout/tagout practices. This role offers competitive pay and benefits in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance preferred.
  • Able to diagnose and repair equipment and systems.
  • Commitment to safety procedures and PPE use.

Responsibilities

  • Follow plant safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Know emergency procedures for power outages, machine failures and injuries.
  • Wear PPE as required and follow Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
  • Identify and report safety issues to supervisor.
  • Participate in safety improvement activities and risk identification.
  • Use hand and power tools, precision instruments, and testing devices.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to keep machines and buildings in good condition.
  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts and reassemble equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems from blueprints and manuals.

Responsibilities
  • Follows plant safety procedures and guidelines
  • Know emergency procedures and what to do in the event of power outages, machine failures, workplace injuries, etc.
  • Wears and utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Understand and identifies Lock-out/Tag-out procedures
  • Informs supervisor of safety issues; reports any workplace injury or incident immediately
  • Actively participates in the D&W safety improvement process/activities, e.g. Hazard Identification, Safety Suggestions, Safety Teams, etc.
  • Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate
  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blue prints, repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary
  • Order parts, supplies and equipment
  • Assemble, install or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, machinery and equipment
  • Assists other workers with specific tasks as requested
  • Follow plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices, or GMP’s
  • Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Works within defined processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments
  • Prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures
  • Supports the Plant’s Food Safety initiatives by completing plant required Food Safety training and by implementing / complying with the required practices.
