Job summary

Nutrien in Watsonville, CA is seeking an Associate Maintenance Mechanic to install and maintain production equipment in a fast-paced plant environment.

You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot a range of systems, welding, piping and PLC-assisted automation, while upholding safety and quality standards. Opportunities for growth and comprehensive benefits are included.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in processing plant maintenance or related environment.
• Experience with pumping systems, compressors, generators, reactors, heat exchangers, filters and agitators.
• Forklift experience preferred.
• Associates degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain production machines and plant equipment.
• Repair and troubleshoot pumping systems, compressors, generators, and reactors.
• Perform preventive maintenance on valves, pumps and gear boxes.
• Inspect parts for defects and replace as needed.
• Weld piping using MIG, ARC and TIG techniques.
• Assist with installation and troubleshooting of PLC controlled automated systems.
• Provide emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance.
• Perform basic machinist duties as required.
• Diagnose problems, replace parts, test and adjust.
• Perform plumbing and carpentry tasks as needed.
• Report faulty operations or materials to supervision.
• Maintenance of building and grounds including lighting, HVAC, plumbing.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment
• Perform repair, troubleshooting or general maintenance work of various types of pumping systems, compressors, generators, reactors, heat exchangers, filters and agitators in operation
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on various types of production equipment, including but not limited to valves, pumps, gear boxes and vehicles, machines and plant facilities
• Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear; replace defective parts and reassemble equipment
• Perform repairs and fabrication of piping systems utilizing MIG, ARC, and TIG welding techniques
• Assist with the installation and troubleshooting of PLC controlled automated systems including actuated valves, pumps, flow meters, scales and associated interlocks and safety systems
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
• Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities
• Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
• Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and adjust
• Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions
• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
• Perform building and grounds maintenance including lighting, HVAC, masonry, plumbing

What You’ll Bring:

• High school diploma/GED
• Associates degree in mechanical or industrial maintenance is a plus
• 2+ years of experience in operating processing plant environment such as food processing, chemical processing or pharmaceutical or training equivalent required
• 2+ years of forklift experience preferred2+ years of experience/training in making repairs on typical chemical processing equipment

Compensation & Benefits:

The salary range for this role, in Watsonville, CA location, is between $18.00 - $28.00. Additional compensation and benefits are determined by experience, skills and location.
