Darwin’s Natural Pet Products in Tukwila, WA is seeking a full-time Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. You’ll maintain, troubleshoot and repair production equipment and facility systems to support safe, efficient operations in a pet‑friendly manufacturing environment.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of hands-on maintenance experience, knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, and experience with CMMS; a high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility infrastructure and production equipment to support safe, efficient, and continuous operations. This position helps ensure building systems and machinery operate at optimal performance while meeting applicable safety and regulatory requirements.

The Maintenance Mechanic plays an important role in minimizing equipment downtime, supporting preventive maintenance programs, identifying potential issues before failures occur, and contributing to overall facility and operational reliability.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment, building systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues in a timely manner.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and maintenance service requests to minimize operational downtime.
  • Conduct routine inspections of machinery, tools, equipment, and building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Identify potential equipment or facility issues before they become major problems and proactively implement corrective actions.
  • Use diagnostic tools, schematics, manuals, and other technical resources to troubleshoot equipment failures.
  • Ensure tools and maintenance equipment are properly maintained, stored, and kept in a safe and organized condition.
  • Assist with inventory control and tracking of spare parts, maintenance materials, and supplies.
  • Recommend equipment repairs, replacements, or upgrades when necessary.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain compliance with applicable FDA, OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory and safety standards.
  • Accurately document preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and other maintenance activities using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or other tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with operations and production teams to address facility needs, equipment concerns, and process improvements.
  • Participate in required safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Support emergency response activities involving facility systems or equipment failures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not oversee staff.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary range: $31 - $38.46 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.

What You Bring
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of hands‑on maintenance experience in a related environment required.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs, equipment troubleshooting, and repairs required.
  • Experience with or familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment specifications, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Valid driver’s license may be required.
  • OSHA safety training certification, preferred
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Work is typically performed in a pet‑friendly office environment with low to moderate noise level.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.
  • Occasional travel to the manufacturing floor required, where the noise level is loud with the dust, vibration, chemical exposure etc. that is typical for a production environment.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime, weekends, or on‑call hours as business and operational needs require.
  • Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; talk; see; and/or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. This is for handling tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to troubleshoot and inspect equipment is required.
  • Must be able to lift up and carry up to 25 occasionally and 15 pounds regularly pounds at all times.
  • Ability to navigate facility including stairs and multiple levels.
