Job summary

PET Dairy, a DFA brand, is seeking a skilled plant maintenance mechanic to care for and maintain production assets, ensuring continuous operation of machinery through electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance. The role requires reading schematics, performing preventative maintenance, handling tools, and supporting safety and quality standards.

The position offers a 3rd shift schedule (Sun–Thu, 11pm–7:30am, with Saturdays every 3 weeks) and pay at $32 per hour,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings including drug, background and criminal checks.
  • Minimum one year experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing facility, preferably food and beverage industry.
  • Minimum one year experience with electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, PLC and/or HVAC.
  • Minimum one year experience with lubricating, cleaning, material handling, motor control, relay control, process control and packaging equipment.
  • Professional experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred.
  • Ability to inspect equipment, recognize problems and independently take corrective action.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic and handle common measuring units.
  • Must be able to handle basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel and bend; may climb/balance.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in cold, wet environments with moderate to high noise.
  • May experience exposure to fumes, chemicals or allergens.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure operation of machinery by completing maintenance on production, packaging, processing equipment, and utilities.
  • Readily available for emergency repairs in breakdown situations.
  • Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and schematics to perform maintenance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and review SPC charts.
  • Support line manufacturing systems and delivery of chemicals and ingredients.
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner with high quality.
  • Use hand and power tools, meters and material handling equipment.
  • Maintain communication with departments and document issues per SOPs.
  • Assist in maintaining parts and inventory levels.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and continuous improvement.
  • Follow GMPs and maintain a clean, safe work area.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and PPE requirements; follow safety protocols.
  • Report food safety and quality issues to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PET Dairy has immediate job openings for skilled plant maintenance mechanic, responsible for the care and maintenance of all property and production assets. This position ensures the continued operation of machinery and equipment in an electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, pneumatic and hydraulic capacity by completing planned and unplanned maintenance requirements on production, packaging, processing equipment and utility systems.

PAY RATE: $32 per hour

SCHEDULE: 3rd Shift / Sun - Thursday / 11pm - 7:30am / Saturdays every 3 weeks

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing maintenance requirements (both planned and unplanned) on production, packaging, processing equipment, and utility systems (to provide a continuous supply of heat, steam, cooling, electrical, power, gas, or air required for operations).
  • Readily available for emergency repairs in breakdown situations
  • Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Perform preventative maintenance (i.e. conducting computerized preventative maintenance check‑ups or reading SPC charts and data)
  • Line manufacturing support systems (ozone generation, line/lube delivery, chemical delivery, ingredient delivery, PH house)
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner maintaining high quality standards
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
  • Maintain communication with other departments, management and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production.
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible and accurate format, and completed with required information. Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with SOP's.
  • Assist in maintaining parts and supplies inventory by reporting low supply levels to Supervisor
  • Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area.
  • Follow all required work safe practices. This would include lockout‑tagout requirements and wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.
  • Responsible for food safety, pre*requisite programs and food quality related to designated area.
  • Report any food safety and food quality related issues to management immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be able to pass all pre‑employment screenings including drug, background and criminal checks
  • Minimum one year experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing facility, preferably food and beverage industry
  • Minimum one year experience with one or more technical experiences: Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer‑controlled equipment, PLC and/or HVAC
  • Minimum one year experience with a variety of equipment including lubricating, cleaning, material handling, motor control, relay control, process control and packaging equipment
  • Professional experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred.
  • Ability to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems and independently take appropriate corrective action to prevent component failures or equipment down time.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Must be able to handle basic hand tools
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel and bend required for virtually the entire shift; occasionally required to climb or balance
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to work in a cold, wet environment with moderate to high noise volume
  • May experience some exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals or allergens
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holiday
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
