Job summary

NewCourtland is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to uphold the safe operation of our facility's mechanical, electrical, and life-support equipment. You will perform routine maintenance and respond to equipment issues to protect residents and staff.

Responsibilities include ensuring an uninterrupted power supply to life safety systems, inspecting the hot water and water supply, coordinating pest control with Housekeeping, and maintaining proper lighting levels.

Qualifications

  • Two years' experience in physical plant operations and equipment maintenance in an institutional health care setting.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with vocational/trade training.

  • Maintain facility plant and essential mechanical, electrical, and resident care equipment.
  • Maintain emergency power systems to ensure power to life safety equipment.
  • Inspect for pests and coordinate pest control with Housekeeping.
  • Ensure proper lighting levels for safe resident activities.
  • Perform routine checks of hot water systems and respond to hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Maintenance Mechanic maintains the facility plant and essential mechanical, electrical and resident care equipment in safe operating condition. Services provided are consistent with the Life Safety Code of the National Fire Protection Association and with all state and federal laws and regulations. The Maintenance Mechanic will maintain the emergency power system to ensure availability of power to all entrances, exits, fire detection alarms and extinguishing equipment and life support systems in the event electrical supplies are interrupted. Ensures the availability of portable water to essential areas in the event of loss of normal water supply. Checks facility hot water system on regular basis to evaluate water temperatures in essential locations of facility. Maintains, adjusts, and repairs hot water system to eliminate hazards to facility residents, staff and others. Inspects physical plant for any signs of rodents or pests. In cooperation with Housekeeping Department, implements effective pest control system to eliminate any rodents and pests. Maintains, adjusts, and repairs adequate and comfortable lighting level, appropriate for tasks, without glare. Lighting supports independent functioning and task performance of residents. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Training/Work Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent, vocational training in skilled trade or other relevant technical training. Minimum two years experience in physical plant operations and equipment maintenance in an institutional health care setting.

Certificate/Licenses:

Must have a license or certificate in one of the following trades: Plumbing, Carpentry, Electricity.
