Job summary

Kaytee, a brand under Central Garden & Pet Company, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic in Cressona, PA to service and repair production equipment. The role includes performing preventive maintenance, equipment installation support, and ensuring plant safety standards are met.

Qualified candidates have at least 2 years in industrial maintenance and can read technical manuals. The position requires teamwork with the Maintenance Manager and shift supervisors in a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance.

• Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
• Ability to repair, dismantle, install or move machinery and mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager, shift supervisors and staff.
• Dismantle, move, install or repair machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Inspect equipment to identify malfunctions and perform repairs or maintenance.
• Utilize hand and power tools and testing instruments to service production equipment.
• Clean facilities, equipment and work areas as required.
• Assist with installing new equipment and systems, and maintain existing equipment.
• Adhere to safety and environmental policies and promote safety improvements.
• Report any Food Safety issues to authorized personnel.

We are currently in need of a Maintenance Mechanic. This position is responsible for performing maintenance functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works closely with Maintenance Manager, Shift Supervisors and personnel.
• Dismantles, moves, installs, or repairs machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Examines machinery or mechanical equipment; identifies reasons for malfunction and completes repairs and/or maintenance.
• Uses hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments to repair and maintain production equipment and ancillary equipment.
• Cleans plant facilities, equipment, and work areas as required.
• Assist with installing new equipment and systems. Repairs and maintains current equipment and systems as needed.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Follows established safety and environmental policies and procedures and promotes continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance in the workplace.
• Performs special program tasks, such as annual and semi-annual PM’s.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Responsible for reporting any Food Safety issues to authorized personnel for correction.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 2 year experience in industrial maintenance.

• Ability to work independently in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner
• Ability to interpret technical manuals.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
• Ability to repair, dismantle, install or move machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Ability to test systems and/or operations in compliance with published standards.
• Ability to accurately use rules, calipers, micrometers, and other related measuring tools.
• Knowledge of inspecting and cleaning utility plant equipment.
• Ability to work in elevated locations (elevator legs)
• Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work involves regular exposure to unusual elements, such astemperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous situations that require following extensive safety precautions and will include the use of protective equipment. Frequent physical activity. Requiresphysical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds, and as needed the ability to lift and/or move 50-100 pounds (with assistance). This job also requires the ability to regularly climb, lift, bend, stand, walk, twist, turn, and reach with arms and hands.
