Are you ready to make your mark? If you are interested in becoming a Maintenance Mechanic at Woodward, we have an exciting opportunity for you! The Maintenance Mechanic reports to the supervisor and is responsible for addressing trouble calls and performing associated maintenance and repair activities on basic machines. The role works under close supervision and limited contact with external suppliers and customers.

Level I:

  • Estimated annual base pay: $20.46-$30.70 hourly

Level II:

  • Estimated annual base pay: $22.70 - $34.04 hourly
  • Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday-Friday with overtime and on-call

Education:

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Hand Tools: Knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of basic hand tools (e.g., wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, scrappers, box cutters).
  • The ability to use computer and web-based systems to input, access, modify, or output information.
  • The ability to write effectively, to read and understand work documents, to communicate information clearly to coworkers and supervisors, and the ability to listen attentively and comprehend key pieces of spoken information.
  • General knowledge of machines and equipment functionality, and how tools could be used on such equipment/machines. This includes the ability to learn new systems quickly, understanding how parts relate, and how they impact system functionality. The position also requires manual dexterity or the ability to work quickly with hands.
  • The ability and willingness to demonstrate eagerness, enthusiasm, and optimism for work activities. This includes the ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities, to learn and understand company policies and procedures.
  • The ability to provide excellent service to internal customers, including seeking to meet customer needs quickly and effectively, remaining professional when dealing with difficult internal customers, reviewing complaints from them and taking action to remedy the complaint.

  • The ability to accomplish a task with concern for all the areas involved, including the ability to notice minute inconsistencies/faults in parts, equipment, or production processes to prevent faulty products leaving the facility.
  • The ability to see details (e.g., letters, numbers, codes, color, symbols, marks, labels, signs) clearly to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Address trouble calls and perform associated maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure that machines and equipment continue to run smoothly.
  • Verify all paperwork is present and filled out appropriately.
  • Transport parts or items from one area of the facility to another using forklifts, other motorized vehicles, carts, wheels, cranes, etc.
  • Assist in the movement of equipment in the facility to support changes in production/facility systems and the installation of new equipment.
  • Change and clean various types of filters (e.g., coolant, fuel, oil).
  • Clean tanks, pumps, and lines.
  • Collect, transport and dispose of hazardous material appropriately and following all guidelines.
  • Determine and gather the necessary tools and materials needed to perform required maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Follow all departmental safety rules and regulations.
  • Log into support issues database and close out completed preventative maintenance and repair activities. (In Duarte, only Lead or Supervisor performs this function.)
  • Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall and other parts of building structures. (Not applicable for Oil Room)

Other Essential Functions:

  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools.
  • Assist in the movement of furniture to support office operations.
  • Assist outside contractors with remodeling and renovation projects.
  • Check oil levels in equipment and compare against specifications.
  • Support other members with cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Collect the water report daily and provide to Environmental Department for annual EPA report.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools.
  • Fabricate and repair counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures comprising buildings. (Not applicable for Oil Room)
  • Identify location of utilities, sprinklers, electrical shutoff, natural gas, well water, city water, etc. (Not applicable for Oil Room)
  • Inspect drives, motors and belts following checklists.
  • Support the install, repair and maintain electrical motors, pipe systems and plumbing work.
  • Support the install, repair and maintain pumps and ventilation work.
  • Support others to maintain air compression equipment, tracking air pressure levels and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Support others to maintain HVAC equipment and perform associated measurements (e.g., measure PH levels, water condensations, steam pressure).
  • Obtain parts, supplies and equipment from storerooms.
  • Operate oil and water separation equipment.
  • Transport maintenance materials and tools using a forklift or other motorized device.
  • Perform repairs to air lines, coolant systems, and other leaking lines.
  • Position and climb ladders or other devices (e.g., scaffolds) to perform maintenance, repairs, or installation activities in elevated areas.
  • Perform basic machining by using drill presses or lathes.
  • Perform meter readings (e.g., water used, sewage out of plant) and record information for Environmental Department for EPA reporting. (Not applicable for Oil Room)
  • Perform minimally complex repairs on equipment and building systems and building structures. (Not applicable for Oil Room)
  • Perform oil changes on equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure that building systems operate efficiently and do not deteriorate. (Not applicable for Oil Room)
  • The following functions are regularly performed at Woodward Santa Clarita and may be performed at other sites, as required.
  • Fabricate and repair counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures comprising buildings. (Not Applicable for Oil Room)
  • Assist with Hazardous waste pickup, movement and storage in accordance with regulatory requirements, as required
  • Assist outside contractors with remodeling and renovation projects.
  • Support the install, repair and maintain electrical motors, pipe systems and plumbing work.
  • Support other members with cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Install and store paper supplies.
  • Notify supervisors concerning the need for any building or equipment repairs.
  • Properly use and mix cleaning chemicals.
  • Empty trash and garbage containers.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum hallways and office spaces.
  • Work in a self-directed work environment.
  • Change out building light bulbs and air filters on air handling equipment as necessary.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of clean room lab requirements.
  • Assist the maintenance department with light machine repair.

This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
