Job summary

SCN BestCo is a leading manufacturer of vitamins, supplements and OTC products in North Carolina. We seek a maintenance technician to quickly address production breakdowns, perform complex machining, interpret blueprints and carry out repairs on a range of equipment, including pumps and welding tasks.

You will install and maintain plant equipment, follow safety protocols, and learn the operation of all production machinery.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work 2nd/3rd shifts or 12-hour shifts.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Respond rapidly to production breakdowns with urgency.
• Layout and perform complex machining on parts using lathes, mills, drills and grinders.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches or specs.
• Diagnose and remedy machine faults and perform repairs.
• Install plant equipment including pipefitting (copper, stainless steel, plastic, iron).
• Troubleshoot and repair pumps (vacuum, centrifugal, diaphragm, gear, reciprocating).
• Inspect equipment for lubrication and preventive maintenance.
• Weld metal objects (TIG, oxyfuel, brazing, arc).
• Perform adjustments on motors/controllers/electrical equipment.
• Follow LOTO policies to isolate energy sources.
• Learn operating and maintenance requirements of all production machines.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

• Respond rapidly to all production breakdowns with a strong sense of urgency.
• Layout and perform complex machining operation on replacement parts using lathes, milling machines drills and surface grinders.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches or other specs.
• Diagnose and remedy machine faults, determine necessary repairs, strip and reassemble.
• Install plant processing equipment including copper, stainless steel, plastic and iron pipefitting.
• Trouble shoot and repair vacuum, centrifugal, diaphragm, gear and reciprocating pumps
• Inspect all plant equipment and machinery for proper lubrication and perform other preventive maintenance.
• Weld metal objects together by means of tig, oxyacetylene, brazing or arc welder apparatus.
• Perform simple adjustments, repairs or replacements on motors, controls, on electrical equipment.
• Follow SCN BestCo’s LOTO Policy and procedures to ensure that machines or equipment are isolated from all potentially hazardous energy before performing cleaning, service or maintenance activities where they may be an unexpected energization, start-up, or release of stored energy.
• Learn machine operating and maintenance requirements of all production machines and equipment

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, basic electrical, welding and pipe-fitting skills
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good writing, reading and math skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with peers, managers, and productions staff
• A sound knowledge of strengths and mechanical properties of materials
• Ability to use common precision measuring instruments, gauges and hand tools
• Supply a quality set of standard and metric size mechanic’s tools
• Understanding of proper lubrication techniques
• Ability to work accurately; within machine specified tolerances
• Deals with uncertainty
• Basic computer and email skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience.
• Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work flexible hours, overtime and shifts (Must be able to work 2 nd , 3 rd or 12-hour shifts)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3+ years of maintenance experience
• Experience working in an industrial setting
• PLC experience
• Experience in the Pharmaceutical industry
• Knowledge of OSHA Regulations
• NCMI Graduate
