Job description

Safety First Group is recruiting for a Maintenance Mechanic to support a process manufacturing facility in Freeport, Texas. This role is responsible for keeping the plant running mechanically through repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.

What you will be doing
  • Maintain and repair a wide range of process equipment, including pumps, conveyors, mixers, blowers, filter presses, thickeners, ball mills, hammer mills, exhaust fans, furnaces, and mobile equipment
  • Perform daily maintenance tasks such as greasing bearings, checking oil levels, and taking readings, including cooling tower checks
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues using blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as needed
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions
  • Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools and power tools
  • Perform preventative maintenance to keep machinery running smoothly and building systems operating efficiently
  • Assemble, install, and repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment
  • Record maintenance and repair work performed, including costs
  • Communicate equipment issues to operations supervision
  • Work in accordance with site safety and HR policies and procedures
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience maintaining a process manufacturing facility
  • Ability to understand process flow diagrams and P and IDs
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively
  • Able to complete required training such as OSHA, LOTO, DOT, HAZMAT, NCCER, RCRA, site‑specific training, and other required certifications
Work environment and schedule

Plant environment outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and precipitation. Work may be performed in tight or confined spaces with the required PPE. Regular exposure to dust, noise, odors, chemicals, and fumes. Rotating shifts required, with overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical requirements

Push, pull, and lift at least 50 pounds. Stand, sit, walk, reach, bend, squat, kneel, and climb stairs or ladders for an entire shift. Must be able to pass respirator fit test, criminal background check, and drug test. Must wear required PPE.
